• Speaking About Loud Hammering Noises...

My NEW 4-month old Amaya XT has intermittently started making a loud hammering noise when the thread grabber moves backward after a thread cut. I saw the thread grabber once when this happened and it shook violently midpoint between its extreme front and back positions where the threads are caught) just in front of the needles.

At first I thought it was being obstructed by something but it wasn't. This is with the regular hoops (not the slimline brackets or the cap driver--haven't tried those yet since this started happening).

It doesn't happen all the time. So far less than 3% of the time, but it has happened more than 10 times now. The other 97% of the time, it works okay.

Can anyone please let me know if there is something I can do? I have completed all the maintenance and oiled this thing religiously. Hopefully it is just something else I haven't oiled and not a repair job, although it should still be under warranty. It has a Z Run Time of 127:44:28 and Z Axis Rotations of 69,869,703.

Thanks,
Ed Roux

I had my original Big Red do something similar long ago...I had a tech call scheduled so I asked him about it. It turned out the needle grabber bar was hitting on the latch on the hoop arm that locks the hoop into place. The tech gave it a very high-tech repair...he gently pushed down on the arms, bending them down MAYBE one degree. I didn't have any more problems after that.

Ed,

It sounds as if the grabber blade is not lining up squarly with the grabber trap. It also could be that the velcro strips in the grabber trap have become loose or misaligned, allowing the grabber blade to bind on them instead of slipping between them.

You can make slight bends in the grabber blade and/or grabber trap to help align them together. If you will close the grabber into the trap and then push in the Emergency Stop, you can now pull and push the grabber blade back and forth manually to see how they are lining up .

The noise you are hearing is kind of a stall protection. It is kind of an automatic lock out and works kind of like your garage door. If anything causes a bind it trips out ...if your finger were to be in the way when the grabber closed, you would get this same noise, scare the poo out of you and the grabber would disconnect and your finger would not get squished....

Just sounds as if you need to take a close look at them and see how they line up....

Hi Judy,

Thanks. I was wondering if the latch on the hoop arm that it might be a little too high, as there seemed to be very little clearance between the grabber and the latch. I'll try bending them down a bit to see if that helps.

Hi Rod,

Whew....that stall protection is nice relieving my fears that there was something major wrong because it is so loud when it happens!

I positioned the grabber blade in the grabber trap (always nice to know the real technical names for these parts instead of trying to come up with a noun that adequately describes it--thanks!) and then pushed the emergency stop button. However, the blade is locked in the trap so I cannot manually pull and push the grabber blade back and forth to see how they are lining up. Did I misunderstand your instructions? The blade seems to look aligned in the trap when I move it back and forth with the keypad, but it happens so fast.

Thanks Rod.

Ed,

Ok....close the grabber into the trap.....now go into Maintenance, Stepperss and in the Grabber column, left click on the "Step < " tab in this column untill you start to see the grabber start to move out.....may take 10 to 20 clicks or so....now hit the Emergency Stop.....it should now be out of any locked position so you can move it manually...

As far as part names, the Parts and Tech CD is very easy to use and will give one all the information they need to properly identify any part in the machine by name.
