Have you replaced the thread feed rollers (big ones on the bottom) and inch rollers (small ones on the top)? If they are the original ones, you may need to get an upgrade kit from Melco to do all 16, including new feed roll covers.

Sometimes just sewing slower helps too...

And the right backing is always a plus...

Check in settings under "Thread Feed" & restore defaults with lower limit being a 2. make sure material thickness is at a 2 or 3 maybe you accidently scrolled up on those to a higher number, also make sure you are on "auto" for actifeed. Just a few things that have happened to me to cause all that thread on top.

Those thread feed roller covers are the bane of my existance. You should NOT be able to pull thread when they are back on and locked into place. The roller covers might not be seated probably. There is a saying about good judgement...it goes something along the lines of Good judgment is usually the result of experience, and that is usually the result of bad judgment.... can we leave it at I have had a LOT of experience??

You should not be able to easily pull thread through the rollers. If you pull hard the thread will slip through and it will cut the surface of the lower roller.

There are a couple of things to check. First, look for grooves in the rubber of the lower rollers. If the thread slips through the rollers eventually it will cut the rubber and that roller needs replacement. Second, make sure the roller covers are seated correctly. If not the rollers will not make contact with the correct pressure and the thread will not be fed consistently. Reseat the covers if necessary.

Also, when lubricating the rollers make sure you don't get grease on the rubber surfaces.

I would recommend using standard feed and an initial material thickness setting of 2 or 3. That will eliminate any problem with autofeed while you are testing.

What color are the thread feed rollers. The pinch rollers will be red but if you have black rubber on your threadfeed rollers they probably need replaced with the newer upgraded version.

The first upgraded threadfeed rollers were yellow in color and were very good. I now see that the color has gone to a more transparent clear color. The yellow ones and now clear ones pretty much wear like iron.....the black ones grooved/cut and or wore out very quickly for the most part.

As FME540 said....check the fit of the roller cover carefully. If it is not snapped in place correctly, it will hold the two rollers apart.....

Rhollid,

I'm guessing that your problem is still stemming from your rotary hook. It's very possible that it wasn't installed correctly. Kind of like when you replace a bad timing belt on a car. You may have gotten the belt on and in the right place but the timing of the engine may not be correct.

Not to mention that a 5 year old machine may be ready for an overhaul.
Where are you at (City & State)? It may not be as expensive as you might think.

I'm chiming in late here, but what version of the OS software are you running?
Version 9 has a problem with the older Amayas. Ask me how I know this...

Mary:

Call melco - we have 3 older Amayas and with the latest version things are fine - as long as your cable tensions are correct.

If you are still having an issue - send me a PM and I may be able to help.

Thanks, John,
I installed the beta version (.95) last week, but then had new problems. I have been too busy to follow up, but, hopefully later this week. I have to go to Charleston, SC, tomorrow to see a sick relative. After that, I hope to talk again with Melco. Sal is the greatest.

Feel free to call me if you need someone to talk it thru with! If your machines are the same age as ours, I've probably had the same issues
