  • Desprate help ....Amaya XT

New to all this, following the instruction in the manual (software install on computer) we threaded the machine. the steps in this manual seem to jump all over the place and often leave off steps. after threading we went to the next steps and got to the point of operating.. we are now at hoops. and we open up another box and find fliers saying if you are using Madeira 1000 yrd type of thread you need to use the spool /cone holder (round thing) we find those in another box. we also read in this handout if your thread is 5500 yard that is installed (and we have 5500 yard threads) another set of instructions. the handout shows what melco calls a thread Cone clovers is needed for this. ???? the handout is confusing one picture shows an installed clover another picture shows the spool/cone holder and the clover being used... when we tried it we can't get the thread over the clover without forcing it to a point i am scared to break something. I guess what I am asking for is someone who is willing to call us and walk us though enough steps to at least see this machine work .. whatever happen to step one do this. step two do this.. heck we didn't even get the paper to say install software first and you will find instructions for the cart. we had to put the cart together from just looking at it and looking at pictures of what one looked liked on the internet. anyway taking a big chance here. we got of money invested in this and so far have not been able to sew one stitch... phone # 503 714 4225. willing to set this up any way we can so we can have a live voice. thanks

I would suggest leaving the covers off at this point and sew something.....the covers are mainly to help keep the thread from unspooling from the vibration of the machine. Maderia style cones are/were terrible for this little annoying trait.

Used machine?? How old? What software? Manuals are not supplied anymore(kind of dates this one, in a way). How much thread came with the machine?

With the discontinuance of Melco's Arc thread line, we will now go with Isacord threads from Ackerman because of the little things you have just mentioned. The folks on this group have their own favorites and it becomes personal preference for the most part.....

thanks for the fast reply ..I don't know the age of the machine bought it melco as a refurbished machine It is a XT ser # 328617 we got the Amaya OS v9 and designshop v9 suite we got 16 color of 5500yard thread. in other words we bought the start up package. at some point we are to have a live person come here for training but have not been told when that will be. we have the machine for about 1 1/2 weeks now.. I spent one week in the hospital and now it is the long weekend and i will be out of town most of next week till the 15th of this month .. was just hoping to see this machine work before i go. also frustrated that the instructions are so scatted and cryptic.

when looking at the pictures on this handout about the Madeira thread the picture shows the amaya thread tree tray surface as being like wood ..ours has a foam surface which i assume would help reduce some vibration.i can not get the thread cone to touch the foam base with the clover. at least not without thinking i am going to break something if I push any harder. so that leaves me to believe I have the older cones and need to use both the spool/cone holder (round thing) and the clover. when that is done the metal tube holding the plastic thread tube will not stick up high enough. maybe your right just try it without the clover & spool holder and just hope the foam is enough to prevent vibration.
will try to set up a hoop next but i can already see from the instructions this is going to be another pain.

If the metal tube is too short to stick out the top of the cone, just pull up the plastic tube as far as you need too. Everyone does this to adjust the feed properly from the cone.

When setting up the arms for the hoops, use the very most inside position. This will accommodate most of your hoops except the very largest.

This all seems very frustrating, but really the cones can be used without all that stuff. If your machine/cart is on carpet, there won't be as much vibration as if it were on a hard surface and therefore the thread will tend not to unravel.

Don't worry so much. Take a deep breath. Just set up one or two threads to start. And when you are assigning the thread colors, just use those two for your first test. No major thing here - this is just testing.

This will all be so mush clearer when you get your training. And you'll be thinking, "What was I so worried about?"

Thank you Juli in Kona. It is so very nice to have experienced people to get feedback from. I think we are just so excited to see this thing work and to get busy making some money that we got frustrated. We appreciate your help. Thanks so very much. : )dani

What part of Oregon are you in. I was born and raised in Baker City/Lagrande area and presently live in Boise,ID only because that is where the grand-babies are at.

Sharon and I are Melco certified trainers and travel the Pacific Northwest....OR,ID,MT,WA,UT, etc..... was the on-site training included as part of the package?

The Maderia thread cones have been used without all the little gadgets they are now offering since the introduction of the Amaya. Will they make the Maderia thread more manageable? Probably, but are they absolutely necessary, no.....

Just push the thread spindles up as far as they will go. Place the thread cone on it and sew. Some folks will pull the plastic tube up out of the spindle a half inch or so to get the height they need.. Just another reason folks like the Arc, Isacord, RA, etc lower style cones on the Amaya's.....

                Hi Frank,Dani and Group,
I can so "relate" to what I read from Franks post.
Thanks for calling me back last evening. I hope there is help out here for is newbies.
I too did not find any directions for the cart and to this date mine is not set up correctly I did not find a picture of the cart on the net to see what the bottom even looked like. It sure would be wonderful to have had some direction step 1 start here load, this and that in a certain order. I did get my machine on delivered on Aug 7th. I got it all threaded software loaded. Was about to sew out a very simple 2 color design the got brave and tried a 16 color design well some things are the wrong colors but still learning. I need to call tomorrow and find out about this onsite training as I did not find out till I had already bought this amaya xt brand new os9 and designshop v9 that my closest training for classroom in Chicago has been closed I have taken all the webinars for the designshop and well be taken them again soon . To bad there was not a video on the machine and maintenance. From the moment I turned mine on I get this maintenance on the rollers for all 16 needles I look thru the instructions and I fear I will mess something up... pull on this take this out so again it sits there looking at me. I will call melco tomorrow on the onsite stuff and on Friday when I will be home in front of the machine. If you find any instructional videos please pass them on. I have seen the one on hats. Even an audio video group to work thru these issues and help us all to understand would be so nice. This is a free place we could set up a room to start something FYI http://www.voiceandvideochat.com/VvCChat.aspx.
                Thanks For listening.
                Susan
