  • Amaya XT sounds awful

I just finished all maintenance actions for my Amaya XT and it sounds like a 350 small block Chevy with a bad main bearing. For all 16 needles, it seems to have a bit of a knock when stitching. If I (and I know I'm prolly gonna get scolded, but hey) let the take up lever hit my finger while stitching (not putting any pressure on the take up lever, just letting it hit my finger), the noise goes away. Is there an adjustment to tighten something up?

    Thanks,

    Linus,

It sounds as if the takeup levers are hitting/touching the sides or bottom of the slots in the needlecase cover while running. Did you take off or loosen the needlecase cover during the lubrication procedure?

There is a slight amount of adjustment when putting the cover back in place. Just make sure that is installed properly and the slots centered to the takeup levers. Also, in the large rectangular opening in the needlecase cover, is a lip that matches a groove in the threadfeed roller assembly. The weight of the needlecase cover is supported by hanging it in this groove.

If the needlecase cover is not properly positioned in this groove and centered correctly, you will get the clattering noise you are describing as the takeup levers are bottoming out in the grooves and/or slapping the sides of their respective slots.

Dropped the oil pan, found the number 8 cylinder had a bad main bearing, replaced the bearings, replaced and adjusted the cover for the take up levers and now we're back to runnin' 8 second qtr miles. Thanks Rod for your help!
