  • Columns looking lousy

It seems that all column edges and, indeed all edges of all fills, are looking ragged recently. I didn't notice it before, but now I do . So, I'm pretty sure this is a recent thing. I have no idea why it is happening.

    I checked:

made sure the arms were tightly screwed on
tried different materials - made no difference
changed the column width back to 0 (turned it off)
    changed needle
the presser foot is set properly
    Actifeed is on auto

Nothing has made the slightest difference. Everything I stitch looks bad. Any ideas what is happening?

    Juli,

Sometimes if you use edge walk underlay it will help keep your columns nice and crisp. ANother thing is even though you are on auto actifeed it may be using too low of a material thickness so try using manual and setting the MT higher and see what happens. Solvy can help also.

      Juli,
"Changed the column width back to 0 (turned it off )"?? The minimum column width should "never" be less than 10 points!!! It appears to default in at 5 pts but should be changed on all lettering and/or designs to sew at a minimum at 10 pts for better results.

If this is , as you say, "a recent thing", the first thing that I personally would consider is lubrication. Red pinch rollers, yellow thread feed rollers, rotary hook, reciprocator shaft, needle bars and presser foot cam and follower.

The machine may be binding and needs a bit of TLC--tender loving care, that is. Do not wait for the maintanance timers to always promt you to oil and grease your machine...give it a drink of oil with grease for desert and free it up and see if this will help...it is a very good place to start anyway.......
