  • New Amaya XT -- thread breaks right out of the box.

    Hi

We just traded in Big Red for the XT. Having a problem with constant thread breaks on the first design we sewed. Have not upgraded the software to Version 9 on the OS or Design Shop as of yet. Decided to test the machine with our company logo to sew on a sample shirt and it has had a thread breaks on the first 4 colors in the design, adjusted acti-feed both up and down, changed needles on two of the colors, nothing helped. Will be calling Tech Support in the morning but wondered if anyone had any suggestions. We did oil bobbin area well and let that sit overnight.

    Thanks

    Linda,
Was this a new XT or a refurbished?
Is the presser foot set too high?
In Amaya OS, is the thread feed lower limit set to "1"? (Click on SETTINGS, THREAD FEED)
    Are the hoop arms loose?
Are the red pinch rollers lubricated?
    Are the needles installed correctly?
Have you tried a different bobbin spool and even a different bobbin case?
What version of AMAYA OS software are you running on this newer Amaya XT? You can find this by clicking on HELP and then ABOUT. The number will look like "7.00.115".

Its new,(as far as we know), got it from Melco, traded in Big Red. Called tech support this morning, tried adjusting the gap for the needle depth, it is not picking up the bobbin thread, after several other suggestions in different adjustment setting, none solved the problem, the Melco tech will arrive hopefully by Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Tech support asked if we had broke a needle, sounded like it could have caused something else to be misaligned, our response was it didn't run that long without a thread break to even break one. If we have a needle break in the future is it going to cause some major problem???? Will have the tech go over it very carefully and hopefully I will be back sewing early next week. (Thank goodness we still have an EMC 10 needle, we use as a spare)

I read the forums ever night and have learned a lot for all the experts out there

      Thanks for responding

        Linda,
I have one more thing for you to check. This would be the rotary hook support/retaining finger position.
On the left side of the sewing arm are two small, silver, 2mm screws that hold in place the rotary hook support. This is the little metal finger that holds the bobbin case and bobbin basket from spinning around.

I suspect that your's may have been moved out of it's correct position.
To correct this, loosen the screws (but do not remove) and push the support finger all the way in until it touches the bobbin basket notch and then slightly pull it forward, just a hair, so that thread can pass between the finger and basket. Then tighten the screws. If the rotary hook support was pushed to far in up against the bobbin basket, you wouldn't be able to stitch one stitch.

Who knows, if you check this you might be able to start sewing this weekend.
        Best of luck,
        Ed

          Hi Ed

To bring you up to date, the Melco tech was out, he determined that the metal casing (not sure the proper name) where the bobbin fits into was defective, he replaced it, also checked the machine over for us, including all lubrication areas. He told us that there was nothing we could have done to cause this, well didn't think so, it was unpacked on Monday and didn't have a chance to try it until Wednesday. Good news I finished the design I started on a sample shirt that we will give as a donation, will sew more with our new machine tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed that I won't be crying for big red to return.

            Linda,
Wow! The bobbin case was defective? I guess anything is possible. Did you know you have a spare bobbin case in your "operator's kit". This is that large flat brown cardboard box.
If you purchased a "starter's kit", then you should have another one in there.

Glad to hear you are sewing now.
            Sincerely,
            Ed

I'm not sure if I was correctly stating the right part in the bobbin case. Its not the metal case that we put the bobbin thread in that we take in and out, its the entire piece that stays on the machine itself. I know it wasn't in the operator's kit box. We have lots of the silver bobbin cases and had already exchanged it from the one sent with the machine before the tech was called. Still have some issues with thread breaks and it not picking up the bobbin thread after a trim, sews that color (on this design it was small highlight on bird's nose) then gave a thread break on the next color. Watching and documenting all to see if it still needs adjustment, will call our tech and go over it with him at the end of the week.

I do get a good laugh sometimes at the humor that goes back and forth with everyone, so nice at the end of the day just to sit and read everyone's posts and now and then get a good laugh.

              Have a nice day
              Linda
