  • Lower Thread Trims - HELP

I have an XT machine that has stopped cutting the bobbin thread and embroid thread after it ties off. Causing huge headaches, constant thread breaks etc.
I have cleaned & oiled the thread trimmer with no luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Dear Glenn,
If you over cleaned the area before this started you might have bent a small piece of metal that is under there. This might have happened if you took the brush and push it in and out hoping to catch any of the threads and lint. The small piece of metal can bend easily and your trimmers won't work. If so you will need to order that part from Melco and replace it. That is only one possible answer.

My bobbin problem was a tad bit different. It wouldn't catch after it trimmed, causing constant bobbin break readings. I switched from sideless bobbins back to cardboard sided bobbins (yuck!), and haven't had the problem since.

        Glenn,
How long have you had your machine? When was the last time you lubricated the red pinch rollers and the yellow thread feed rollers? When was the last time you lubricated the reciprocater and the needle bars? When was the rotary hook oiled last?

All the above questions are related--it is kind of like the kneebone connected to the thighbone thing....Did this condition come on gradual or all at once? Have you been using sticky backings or sticky spray? Is this condition a 100% failure or an occasional thing? Sounds to be a bit more than occasional but how often is it failing? Is it failing on all designs and lettering or just specific ones?

As you can see there is a ton of information that is needed to make some kind of diagnosis to resolve your trimming issue. It may be a simple fix or it may require a tech visit to adjust the machine, replace knive, selector,... etc.

If you would care to give me a call, I may be able to help you as i have had quite a lot of experience with the XT trimmers to date...
