  • Slim line clamps

I am thinking of purchasing the slim line clamps. Can any owner of these clamps advise if they are worth the money? do they work well?

My hope is, that I can sew jacket backs with them. Am I asking too much of the clamp?

I did a Carhart jacket back and it was very difficult to hoop.

I think they are GREAT. I have 2 sizes of the smaller ones and 2 that are part of the larger group.
Melco actually had them on sale last week. I remember getting an email.

I have the very large ones as well as the smaller set and they are great. I do duffel bags all the time and could not hoop them very well otherwise. They would be great for jackets.

I'd have to see the 'larger' slimline clamps to believe they could do jackets...just the way the clamp is built you cannot slide excess fabric around to get to the midshoulder area for sewing.
We use our 'original' set all the time but no way would it hold up to carhart (we use the Sanmar work jackets instead-far superior jackets and made for embroidery)weight jackets.
So if there is a clamp system that large I'd like to see it!
Lucky you the ones that got emails about sales-we haven't gotten anything from melcomart since we bought the machine-just traded up to the XT and still have yet to recieve ANYTHING from them for correspondence! Other than a missing hat hoop that had to be sent over-we're left out in the cold here...typical of the company!
At least this time we expected to hear nothing so we weren't disappointed!

I agree -- Melco has no follow-up. I bought 2 Amayas in 2005 & have had no corresponse with the salesperson since then, I inquired about advanced digitizing and never heard. Last time I went to the apparel show in Atlantic City I didn't even bother to stop by their booth as they only have time for new customers...updates on software??? Have never heard anything from Melco, very disappointed in Melco's support of their embroiderers...

We too own both sets of the slim line hoops. I would have to say they are great for hooping along the edge of things but may present a problem for trying to hoop a jacket in the upper back region. You can allow areas of the garment to hang off to either side and in the front but not really any room in the rear of the hoop to allow the garment to hang outside the hoop window.

As for Melco's correspondence, I would have to say that all salespeople are NOT alike. And that's all I'm gonna' say.
