You will need 3 ethernet cables and a switch(used to be call a hub). One cable from each machine to the switch and one cable from the switch to the computer. The yellow cable you are presently using will not be used as it is a crossover cable and is wired differently than a standard ethernet cable. Keep it tho, as it is a good trouble shooting tool but it is used only for one. machine, one computer hook up.....
If you are running pre-version 9 software like 7.00.115, for example, then you will need to aquire Flex+ software. I think it is about a $1500.00 program. Currently you probably only have Flex. Go into Tools, Security and it will show you what you currently have.
The difference between these two is that with only Flex, you can have up to 30 machines on one ethernet card but it only allows the (all) machines to sew the same design at the same time. The machines do not have the flexibility to sew different individual designs at the same time.
Aquiring Flex+ allows the machines to be placed in an "Advanced Mode" and will still allow up to 30 machines on one ethernet card, but now you can sew 30 different designs on 30 different machines all at the same time from one computer hookup....that is if you had 30 machines. Doesn't matter, two machines or 30 machines, point is it allows the flexibility to separate the machines, some for caps, some for flats or any combination you want or need. So Flex+ is important.
With Version 9 Software, my understanding and experience is that Flex+ is now just a part of it.
Recently I worked on a lady's machines. She had an XT using Version 7 software. With the purchase of a second XT, she also upgraded to Ver 9 software. As long as she is running in Version 9, the machines would operate in the Flex+ mode. But, if Version 7 OS was opened up, the machines would only operate in the Flex mode because she did not have or had not purchased the Flex+ program prior to Ver 9 while running Ver 7....Hummmmmm. Interesting prediciment...

My original Big Red came with Design Shop Pro +, and was all set up for multi head use with the correct dongle and everything...but we never bought any more machines.
So you don't need to pay for the 'extra' to go to multi machines now?
