  • Maderia Thread

With the recent acquistion of Melco Mart by Maderia do you think the Amaya will get a updated thread holder to hold there spools correctly? We use Isacord and ARC Poly and have recently had to order some Maderia for some color match issues. The Maderia spools do not seem to fit well on the machine and vibrate while it is running. Not that it causes any problems just curious.

I got some sample spools of Maderia about 10 years ago and hated it because the thread kept getting tangled up due to the way it sits on the machine. I threw about the spools and never looked at Maderia again. I have had no issues with Isacord and Isamet. I would try to match the ARC with Isacord colors if you can.

Steve/Curtis - that is actually a good question. Do the latest Maderia threads sit nicely on both the XT and the Original Reds? They were always too tall in the past whereas Isacord fit great. Wondering if this has changed? Curtis - how recently was your purchase?

I have some Maderia that we have purchased in the last year and we have no problems with them on the thread tree on either the Original Red or the XT. They are taller and we just pust the plastic tube higher. It hasn't been a problem on the tree feeding through or stitching.

Really? With our Reds, the tube barely extends beyond the top of the spool - pushed out to it's maximum.

I have both the bigger cones and the smaller cones and the bigger ones are taller but no problems with them or the tubes.
I do have to say on the smaller spools they do tend to unravel more on the tree but I solve that problem by putting a piece of tape inside the hole to lessen the vibration and that seems to work good.

Our 'maintainence' kit in Jan. came with a package of rubber 'X's...slide them over the tube and they go inside the Madeira cones and hold them secure-or they also work to hold the small spools up instead of having to put on or take off the cardboard coasters! Double duty-never have to take them off.

So do you have a partnumber for these rubber4 X's and how can we get them?

This is the empty bag we found on the counter-it 'might' be the right part number but ask to make sure! 089G402A18N CX
Everything else is accounted for ...so we think this is the X's.

I just checked with a 'search' on the new shopmelco site and of course, it's not there.
                    Good luck!

My Maderia thread was ordered about 2 weeks ago. The one other thing I noticed about their spools is that I had to sand the casting flash from around the top of them so they would feed right. And Roland are you adding a XT or trading in your "Big Red"?

We went for the trade in...now I have to find some time to check out Design Shop 9...haven't got a single order in house for embroidery so if I can get my screenprinting and sign jobs out of here I can find some time to play!

Let me know what you think about #9 I am curious about plotting for a line with the laser, inputting point a and b . We are the other way around I have couple vinyl jobs lined up and quite a bit of embroidery, well for us anyway LOL. I did a practice 4 color seperation the other day and it turned out pretty good,I want to try process next.

Yeah, Madeira spools are a pain, don't even arrive all the same model. I asked Madeira about that once and they said "that's just the way the come from the factory".
I use different DIY methods of fitting them to the XT's pins like stuffing backing inside the spool, breaking off the inner plastic tab on some Madeira spools that makes them ride high. I always raise the spool to maixmum height too. I have had problems haveing the thread get under the spool and wind itself in a mess, but 99% of the time, they do fine.
I like them for their fashion trend color matching possibilities. Also my supplier is very reliable which is top of list for me.

We haven't had a problem yet with Madeira cones that was any different than Melco cones-thread getting under the spool, etc.
Traced that problem back to the fan forced hot air heater hanging from the ceiling here-it was 'unwinding' the thread at night and the loops would fall down the cone-when we started sewing, it would tighten up under the cone. Got the amaya 'cover' and solved that problem. Now we have the rubber 'X' that Melco sent with the maintainence kit-Brian installed those last week on each tube and the cones stay perfectly still. Take off the large cone, the X opens up, and there's the perfect 'pad' to set the mini cones on!
