  • Keeps putting a hole in the shirt

We have the AmayaXT, we have ruined a couple of shirts this week when the machine put a hole in the shirt. It seems like the backing or bobbin thread is getting caught and when the hoop moves it tears the shirt, but I am not sure.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Backing shouldn't get caught if you have it hooped-no 'corners' hanging in the breeze so to speak. And your hooped item should be slightly 'above' the needle plate-not riding down on it.
The holes we have seen are from a thread not getting 'trimmed' or cut when the hoop moves to start a new area. It's random-and usually just clicking the presser foot down 1 click cures it. If the presser foot isn't holding down the fabric secure enough, it doesn't always cut the thread everytime and instead of having a 'jump' stitch it just pulls the thread taut and if the hoop moves too far...you get 1) needle break, 2) thread snap (and moves the backing!) or 3) as you find-it tears/pulls a hole in the shirt.
Now I'm not a tech or an expert on this...but that's what I've seen on our Big Red. It's gone...took off for a trip yesterday in a big truck. Brand new XT sitting here now waiting for our local tech to come up and set it up for us!

Sewed one out good, then happened again. There is a bunch of thread under the shirt, balled up and gets caught in the needle hole.

3 shirts down and counting, Help.

That's a birdsnest. You need to clear out your bobbin area and hook. You most likely have thread caught up in there.

Other causes of holes - too dense a design - needles that need to be changed.

Can you sew another design on one of the ruined shirts to see if it's design specific after you clean out the bobbin and hook area?

another thing it could be is if your thread isnt in the correct spot it needs to be in the little groove under pinch roller. if you can pull the thread without having pinch roller up that would definity cause the problem you are explaining...have had it happen a few times.

While you're at it check bobbin tension.
