  • X motor home timeout

I am getting the subject message on one of my machines. (Still using OS v7.) I tried the e-stop; power off, close OS, open OS, power on. I tried both processes and left the machine alone and then I manually moved the pantograph back to center while power was off. Upon power on, after the RSA/CSA loads, the pantograph moves all of the way to the left and I get the message again. Anyone know what is going on?

Try wiping off the X sensor under the X Carriage. It's not finding home.

Oh, and while the estop is pressed and the machine off, move the carriage back and to the right. Force it to come up on that sensor and see it.

        John,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had called Melco and they told me that I needed either a new motherboard or a new motor and recommended replacing both. But I cleaned the bottom track (maybe too much grease when I did that service recently?), moved it forward as well as to the right, blew compressed air all around that area (I don't know where the actual sensor is?) and now it seems to work!

Do you have an Original Amaya or XT?

I am very suprised that tech support didn't have you do this. All I know is one of our machines has had this issue since day one. It's actually one of the reasons I am doing this list/site now.

Anyway, the sensor is on the underside of the X carriage. It's a black rectangle on the left underside (if you are standing looking at the machine from the front). It senses a rail that is painted white and looks for the end of that rail. When it doesn't see white anymore, it changes from either open to closed or closed to open (can't remember which) and that tells the mobo and machine where X home is.

Over time, that rail can get dirty or the sensor itself can get dirty. Wiping it off usually fixes the problem combined with moving the carriage to a position where it will creep up on the sensor and let it do it's job

I know I am over simplifying here!

On my machine, the problem is so chronic that I think the wire that connects the sensor is faulty and the sensor assembly needs to be replaced (which includes the sensor and the wire). I think it's about a $20 part.

Anyway, I seriously doubt there is anything wrong with your Mobo.

Cheers - glad I could help.

Oh and grease on the track of the x carriage? I can tell you that happens at the 20,000,000 stitch maintenence - which I just did on one of our machines today!

I am thinking of putting that on my website.

Over 20 Million stitches served. LOL.
