help! needle stuck in down position

[Shuffletown Embroidery]

I just started to sew the first cap with my new XT. On the first stitch, the needle stopped in the down position and the message "master machine detached for the system" has come up.
I am a novice with caps, so I may have done something wrong.
If I power off the machine and turn it back on, will the needle come up before the head moves?
Otherwise, what do I do?

Push the E-Stop button and then turn it to reset it. Needle should come up.

I should have also said that the OS does not think the machine is connected.
