  • Amaya & Non-Melco digitzing software; is it possible

I am new at this and hope I have posted this in the correct discussion board. Is it possible to have the Amaya machine and use digitizing software other than DesignShop? I am considering the purchase of an Amaya, but am not sure how my digitizing software will communicate with the machine. Thanks, Pascale

    Pascale~

I have an Amaya and use Embird for my digitizing software and before that I used PE Design so to answer your question yes you can run the Amaya without having DesignShop!

    Good Luck!

      Pascale,

Yes, you can run the Amaya without Design Shop. Having Design Shop allows quick interaction between the machine and digitizing software by just left clicking on a DS icon. You can also assign machine settings in Design Shop and load design information directly to the Amaya by File, Machine Load commands.

No, other digitizing programs will not allow this quick back and forth interaction to take place so therefore, technically speaking, your digitizing software will not "communicate" with the Amaya.

Your digitizing software will create a file for a design and then you save it to a folder in whatever drive you wish. Amaya can access any folder on your hard drive and will open compatible stitch files in them.

Thanks Rod & Tina for the quick replies. I visited a local shop that has the Amaya, Design Shop & the machine software (? name). By using the software (which was on a separate computer from Design Shop) he was able to choose the hoop, make design positioning adjustments, etc on his computer screen. Would I still be able to use that particular software without the Design Shop digitizing software? I currently have a Babylock EMP6 so I am not at all familiar with how to position designs on hoop without a screen to look at! Thanks again, Pascale

          Pascale!

The Amaya is ran from the Amaya OS software in which you can choose your hoops move the design within the hoop etc...the only drawback is that you would have to open PEDesign to do any editing to the design that needs to be done.
You would do everything via the computer instead of the small screen that you have on the emp6.

Hi Tina, Thanks again for the info. That is great. Between your posts & Rod's I think I understand! The Amaya OS software will read DST format from any digitizing software and it, in essence, is replaces the small screen that I have on my EMP6. Are the buttons on the panel on the machine for "fine tuning" and doing the final "trace"? One other quick question: does the black "tray/table" below the bobbin arm of the Amaya ever get in the way, say when embroidering deep & non-flexible bags, or do you find that having the tray there actually helps support the project better? Pascale,

You need a monitor with the computer to use the Amaya software. You will be able to operate certain functions of the machine from there also.

Yes, DST, EXP, CND, OFM and many other file formats are compatible for use.

The "buttons" on the machine is the machine keypad or "Interface Assembly" . This is much more than a fine tuning device. It basically controls all the movements and functions of the machine itself. It also has the Emergency Stop button on it. You cannot start the machine running from the computer, the start button must be pressed on the keypad.

                  Oh yes...the tray....

One, to protect the main control board....

                  Two....it is handy.

Three....if removed to sew something, as you have described, something should be used to protect the main board that will not restrict cooling air to the fan on it...so I would not advise it's removal for the most part.

Four...I have yet to sew on anything that forced me to have to remove the tabletop tray....

I didn't know the tray could be removed, but glad to hear from your experience that it has not hindered your embroidery. Thanks again! Pascale

                      Pascale,
I am new to Amaya but have used Melco machines for 14 years. After following this discussion for a week, I am strongly encouraging you to take the training from Melco. So many of your questions will be answered. Sometimes I read something and shivers go up my back! The speed alone on the Amaya compared to my EMT-10T tells me I had better know what I'm doing with this! Good luck and I hope you enjoy creating embroidery.

                        Rod,
You definitely WILL have to remove the black plastic tabletop if you want to embroider on a pant's leg.
...And you forget to take the pants off first.
