  • How long does it take to sew out 5 T's?

Ok, it is not a trick question as it has litterally taken me all day to sew out 4 t's with about 25K in stitches.

I think I have a bad spool of black thread as I have done everything else possible to eliviate thread breaks today. How does one know if the spool is bad? It is a brand new spool just took the wrapper off today before sewing out the shirts or should I say attempt to sew.

Any insight on how to tell if a spool is bad would be greatly appreciated as I am going to call supplier first thing Monday morning...

    Everyone have a great weekend!

    Tina,

After making sure all your settings are correct, presser foot height is correct, all needles are oriented properly and do not have any burrs on them, the machine has been lubricated, etc..run Ampass.

If all you are having trouble with is black you can assign it to seww more often or just assign all 16 needles to be black for the whole design.

This will tell you whether it is a design issue or a machine issue or a thread issue, etc.

Use 3 pieces of medium weight cut-a-way backing or equivalent and try running at 1200 spm.....

Thanks Rod! I plan on giving Smoky a good cleaning this weekend just to be on the safe side as far as the rollers go as I just did the 2mil last week. After the cleaning I will run the Ampass and see where it is at...

      Thanks!

I think black thread is weak and it does not seem to matter which brand it is. I have problems with all of them.

It is weaker then the other colors however believe it or not I usually don't have that much problems with it that is kind of why I was thinking I got a bad spool...

We were having constant thread breaks with black as well. We switched from Arc Poly to Isacord and it made a 95% improvement not saying we never get thread breaks on black but sure has helped. I had tried 3 different spools of Arc Poly before I switched so I don't think it was just a bad spool.

We use Isacord on white and black and Arc for everything else. We have little to no problems ever with thread breaks. I think 75% of the problems people have are design/digitizing related, 24% are probably machine related (settings - bobbin, presser foot, actifeed etc or maintenence related) and less than 1% are thread.

If you think the spool is bad try another. If the problem goes away it was that spool. If not it's something else. In 15 years running multiple heads I have had two bad spools of thread.

Right there with you Steve - almost never seems to be the problem for me.
