  • Loud noise when trimming

My XT that was purchased on 11/07, If I have a design with lets say 10 trims in it I will hear this crashing noise every 25 trim but it is not at the same time it is sporadic but when it does happen the machine doesn't trim, It happens so fast that I cant tell what's happening. If I was to guess I would say the front tread grabber hits the needle occasionally???
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Yo Mud,

Is the thread being cut when you hear this noise? Is the thread being slingshot back up through the eyelets when this happens?

It is doubtful that the grabber is contacting the needles. The grabber is probably contacting an uncut top thread that is a result of a miss-trim and the grabber is trying to stuff a taut thread back into the grabber trap which gets tight enough to cause the grabber to go into a stall protection mode. It will then growl and chatter.

Time to call Melco to document possible trimmer issues and/or let them talk you through the fixes.....

I inspected the back side of the grabber thinking if it was hitting it would have a least a nick, dent or something, but it was as smooth as a babys bottom, so that rules out the hitting part.......

It is trying to cut when I hear this noise, but it ends up a missed trim and pulls the tread to the next position. Scarred that it will break a needle one of these times.

I did notice that the front grabber does not go all the way back that it stops about halfway, Then returns to the normal position and the machine thinks it trimmed.

The thread is alrady suppose to be cut under the needle plate before the grabber fires. It will then pull the cut thread up through the garment and stuff it up into the grabber trap out of the way.

Yes, it can break a needle or bend it which is probably worse...The trimmer assembly may need to be adjusted. Have you cleaned and lubricated this assembly under the needle plate?

I just had the needle plate off and made sure I blew it out real good, tomarrow when I get back into it I will open it again make sure its clean and give it some oil just to be safe, do you think if I change the blade it would help?
            Thank once again

It certainly would not hurt to change out the knife...it could be getting dull...all a process of elimination

Well I ran it for another 8 hours today and heard that noise 2 times with missed trims, So it has improved but I wonder if the fact that I am running allot of caps with a 3 oz. tearaway cap backing, that style of backing leaves what looks to me like a bad case of dandruff in there so now that I am done with the caps I cleaned it out again, oiled it put it back together and I will have to see if the cap backing dandruff was causing it to happen
