Not Trimming

I have not used my Amaya for a couple of weeks. I have two new jobs coming in next week so thought I'd do a test sew out just to make sure everything was still good (I've had bad luck in the past). Well it was a good thing I did because it is now not trimming the thread.
When I last used the machine it was working fine so I thought maybe it just had something to do with the design I picked for the test sew out so I chose another design I had used this winter and it still didn't trim the thread.
I looked in the manual but did not see anything covering problems with thread not trimming.
If anyone could give me advise on things to check to get it trimming again it would be greatly appreciated.

Natalie, have you checked to make sure that the cutter is working by doing a cutter test? If not then in your Amaya OS click on Tools then on Maintenance then on Steppers then under Cutters click on Out and see if the cutter moves out and then on In and see if the cutter moves back in. If not there is a metal rod that has on occasion come undone on my machine several times in the past that will keep your machine from cutting the thread.

If you are still having trimmer problems,a little more info might help. Is the machine an XT or a non XT.

For either machine,It would not hurt to remove the needle plate clean the trimmer and hook area with compressed air then lubricate the trimmer.

With the needle plate off and the thread removed from the active needle, perform a trim function and see if the Selector and knife are functioning.

Check to see if the cables are connected to the back of the knife and selector.

More info would help to determine if the problem is mechanical,electrical or software related.

Ok, so I've tried the Cutter test and that worked, It moved Out when I clicked on Out and In when I clicked on In. I removed the needle plate and cleaned the trimmer and hook area and lubricated it. I performed a trim and the selector and knife both moved. The last on your list to check with to see if the cables are connected to the back of the knife and selector -- what is the correct way to take apart to see?

The mechanism is so touchy, it can be just a hair off and not trim! It is, IMHO, just too touchy for a machine that vibrates like any of these big powerful machines do. Fortunately, a new trimmer is in the works and I, personally, can hardly wait!

I got on the horn with tech support and messed everything up so bad that Doug Dang had to come out from Honolulu to get me going again. While he was here he did a good maintenance on it. Did some needle adjustments and oiled and greased everything. Running good now.

If you go into the manual (on the CD) in there somewhere it tells you what to look for about the adjustments for the knife and selector. But, from personal experience, expensive experience because I am out of warranty for that sort of thing, even though it was always bad!, it is hard to know what it should look like. The tinniest little bit off and you are in trouble.

I am not a good one to ask about fixing the trimmer! My track record is dismal.
