Embroidery On Hats (Problems)

Depending on what I'm trying to sew on a hat the lines on fonts are not straight and if it's a design the outline doesn't sew where it's supposed to.

Also, on the fonts I usually get loose stitches. I'm using the hat hoop that came from Melco.

I would say it is a hooping problem but not knowing anymore information it is hard to tell.

What type of hat are you sewing on, are you using stabilizer 1 or 2 sheets, is your design digitized specifically for hats?

I would suggest watching the video that Herb and Sharon did for hat hooping and maybe that would help you for starters...

The cap is a KC 8830 Unstructured cotton cap. I'm using 1 sheet of cap backing. The design is a stock design fish from dakota. I did a sample sew out and everything was great.

This problem still happens sometimes on stuctured hats that I carry. And as I mentioned before when I'm doing names the lettering is sometimes not straight. This happens on my flexfit caps.

Could you tell me where I can find this video.

Just found the video and I definately need to do some things different. I still have some concerns for unstructured hats.

Try using 2 sheets of stabilizer as this helped me in the past. Also, it would help if your design was digitized for the hats but since it is not try rehooping and the double stabilizer...

[Just Sew It]

I think the most important thing with hats is to smooth that cap to the driver and snug it down before you put the strap on.Adjust your strap to be snug and check the sides to see that the teeth have caught the sides of the cap and everything is flat to the driver. I have been doing hats for years, and learned to hoop my caps better from the video even though I have a big red and use the WACF.

I can help at least w the stabilizer...
We make very heavy, thick and dense tearaways specifically for caps - 2.5 and 3 ozs
As w all products it is designed for single layer application
I am not sure if this wll resolve your problem(s)
As they may be digitizing related but at least it will help to eliminate stabilizing as the problem.

I had an issue with hats a while back, I found and don't laugh - I used 2 pieces of felt as a backing.
Yes and be sure the hat is well set in the frame.
I just finished a short run of hats that were structured and used no backing.
speed -650, cat. feed 45, fun//fill 103 and the material thicknes 8.
I have found slowing the machine down can help.

Felt is VERY multi directionally stable - 2 pieces even more so.
Would you try an experiment?

Trut one of the structured caps w nothing and then try one with a 2.5 oz or 3 oz cap tearaway
You should see a little better definition or extra crispnes esp on lettering - w the tearaway
If you want we will gladly send samples of a dense 2.5 oz tearaway for those tests.
