• constant thread breaks

I have been sewing a design that sews beautifully- I have done over 200 of this design on Gildan hoodies without problem. IT is a large simple design in one color. Lately, I began having thread breaks, first it seemed to be every time there was a trim, then at other times too. At times there is thread wound around behind the bobbin, other times not. I have checked the usual, replaced the needle, changed needles, checked bobbin tension, checked my settings, checked my step hook timing, etc. I can find nothing out of place. I think maybe my cutter might be dull, but that doesn t account for everything. Any ideas of what else to check?

I can certinly help you if its a stabilizer problem
However, it may not be
But I can hel0p to rule in or out the stabilixer
Are you using a "sticky" type ?

When I get thread breaks on a design that I know has worked well in the past it is often because the presser foot is too high.

Thanks Fred and David. No, I am not using a sticky stabilizer, but I did a complete cleaning and lubricating anyway. I will try a different backing but I have been using this stuff for quite a while. I checked the height of the foot too. I do have some static electricity and I am wondering if that might be it. Any other ideas out there? I went from doing these hoodies quickly to having to babysit the machine to get through one.

Is your actifeed minimum thread feed setting on? Sometimes, I'll start sewing, only to have thread breaks and realize my wife was running something before me that had a different minimum setting than the default...

How about the thread? Could it be a bad roll?

Well, it could be the thread- it is a different brand than I have used, but I did about 20 hooodies before the problem started. The acti-feed I will check, I think it is on auto.

I wonder about static- It does seem that the bobbin thread gets wound up in the case a lot. Or stuck behind that little hook arm thingy (I dont know what its called!) Does anyonr have trouble with static?

Are you using metal bobbins?

Dust your machine using a dryer sheet! (Not the wet type sheets)
No more static.....

Gini,

The question John presented was not whether the auto acti-feed was on auto or standard but it was about the "Auto Lower Limit" setting that governs the lowest material setting parameter that you choose to allow the auto acti-feed to go to.

This setting is found under "Settings", "Threadfeed". The default setting for this has been 1. If this setting is too high, false or real thread and/or bobbin breaks and poor quality embroidery will occur.

Hey Rod:

I could use you in real life as a translator

John - "The mirrored drives failed causing the RAID to go to critical status - thereby compromising the servers redundancy"

Rod - (What John really meant to say...)

"Server's broke. Needs a new hard drive"

I'm feeling kinda good since I understood the first part from John! Being the owner artist digitizer janitor and IT guy I am feeling great that I got some of the lingo down!

OK- I am heading back to the shop to check if my RAID is redundant. Once I get the cover off and pull out all the wires I will write back for more instruction!

Well, I recieved a shipment of my usual brand of thread, ARC, and the design now sews just fine! The other thread was Isacord which I have used before without any trouble, but I guess that particular cone was the problem.
