  • caps again

I am having a hard time getting my cap to stay where I put it. After stitching for a tiny bit, it migrates out about ½ inch. I’ve got the clip firmly gripping into the area between the brim and the cap. I noticed in the parts/instructions it mentions pads that need to be replaced. I didn’t get anything like that. Am I missing something or am I doing something wrong. I have watched the amaya cap video and the one on this site. I am getting very frustrated. – thanks.

Well there can be a number of things causing this. Where is the design located on the cap and is to big for the style of cap? And are you using enough backing the length should catch all of the teeth around the cap frame. Do you run a trace before hand to see if it moves?

NO, the design is not too big and it is in the front center. I am using 2 layers of backing and the teeth catch around the whole of the brim, I did do a trace and it seemed fine. I wondered about the cap support pads. I don't have any. Should I?

You should bring the design as far to the brim as possible. Otherwise it will be too high. Try that and see how it does.

Are you using an XT or big red. What are the dimensions of the design. Describe "migrating" in detail. What cap are you using. (Make/Model)

I have a 2004 Big Red and it is a Port Authority Cap. Herb, I am in Coeur d'Alene. Do you think I could come down and show you what I am doing and you could tell me what I am doing wrong? I understand if you don't have the time. I am new to all this and it must be something I am doing. Thanks - mary

Update - I spent last night reading all the suggestions in the archives and actually got it to stitch out today. Nothing like learning how to do a cap and digitizing it myself and having a circle on it surrounded by a half circle. Whew! But I learned a lot! And I think the idea of using double sticky tape really helped. Tonight I am going to apply the plasti dip.
A question I have though is about the hooping. Although I have a 2004 amaya, it came with an XT Extended WACF. I would like to make hooping and stitching easier and many of you suggested using the regular and not the Extended WACF. Do you suggest getting one of those or the Hooptech Framing Gauge and Cap Frame? I probably will mostly do unstructured hats. - But hopefully considering the way this has gone so far, not many. Thanks - mary

                Oh - and the design was 1.6" x 5"
