How do I accurately trace for hats?

How do I make sure that the design will always be in the same place on each hat? On the EMT-10T I could pull the needle down and accurately measure out from the strap to a point on the hat. Then trace, move up and down the seam, and verify straightness. On the Amaya I can't pull the needle down, I'm guessing where it will be on the hat, and I can't accurately measure the distance between the strap and where the needle is for placement.

I don't do hats, but when I want exact placement I use the "bottom center" under the "maintenance" tab. It's a bit of a pain, but it will show exactly where the needle will land. So if I am just interested in the center point, I can do a "bottom center" at the start; if I want to be sure of the horizontal or vertical, I digitize a line at the beginning of the design, then using the keypad to move along the line, I do several "bottom centers" along it to make sure everything is lined up the way I want.

This is how we do caps. In your design software digitize a straight walk stitch that has a stitch length of about 20(loose). Put this as the first stitch in the design. Hoop cap as always and put on machine. Move the lazer between the seam and top stitching(off to the right). Move the design so you won't hit the hoop and trace the design. Start the design and see if the needle hits in the seam. If it doesn't stop, cut thread and back up to the beginning. Move the lazer left or right. Reset design and retrace to make sure things are where they should be.
