i haven't had the machine that long, 2 months. its an XTS. but sometimes during a color change it clicks and I'm sure its the gears not meshing, but how to you adjust it to not do this?
I'm on OS version 11 btw.
I find just hitting the e stop and the releasing it most of the time resets the drive gear to its proper position.
I have gotten in to the habit of always turning the machine off with it on needle 1 then it is never a problem. as the gear resets instantly.
Have no Idea why Melco does not have the gear reset till the end of the boot process.
hmm, I figured out the process of adjusting it. so far so good. but one thing on the e stop button....if you hit this button during a design will it start back in same position? I have a problem with it not trimming sometimes and it pulls hard on the garment when color changing, or sometimes breaks the needle.
It's supposed to start in the same position, but mine sometimes jumps a bit. If I press the e-stop, I always make sure that I either go back to the origin and recenter the hoop or if the design has a huge stitch count and I'm too far into it, I look for something nearby like a walk stitch that I can move to and do "bottom center" to make sure everything is still where it's supposed to be.
Here's a quote from Rod for a trimmer issue:
"When was the last time you cleaned and lubricated this selector/cutter assembly? It may be that it is all jammed up with lint or some other debris.
It may be that the pushrod is off and not pushing and pulling the lower knife back and forth. It may be that the stepper motor that drives this system has gone kaput...."
I guess I could check the knife, it has done it since new, 2 months old now. it trims most of the time. I'd say for every 10 trims it may not cut 1 or 2 times.
Sorry I read your post as you were having the clicking on start up.
Have you checked your thread drive gear for cracks?
move your head to needle 1, remove the three screws holding the gray right side cover behind the head and you will be able to see the gear.
You did not mention any missed trims in your first post.
Cleaning your trimmer is a good start, also bobbin tension should be checked.
Jerome is correct about the bobbin tension, too loose or even too tight can affect the trimmer. Search the posts on this site as Rod Springer (tech) has listed several reasons for possible trimmer failures.

Reason: Said the same thing about bobbin tension as Jerome
this whole bobbin tension thing, I have found that these machines are so sensitive about everything. I set mine by the bounce test so it drops an inch or two. is there a video somewhere to confirm this is right?
I gave up on the cardboard sided, left lint behind, have magnacore in white & black the cost is minimal for ease and clean running.
I don't say this to change anyone's mind just letting you know MHO.
nothing more.
