• weird thread break

I've got an interesting issue with a thread break that is driving me crazy. I have poly arc white thread 010 on position #3. While sewing, the thread is rattling and bouncing in the machine. It then creates lots of thread breaks. The wierd thing is that when I remove the white thread and replace it with a different color poly arc on the same positon #3, I don't have hardly any thread breaks sewing the same design. Is it fair to say that it could be the thread. The white thread seems like it is thicker, but it may be my mind playing tricks on me. The white thread will also fray and back up. When I move the white thread to another position, the same thing happens. Someone please tell me i'm not crazy!!

Jason!

Since you are a newbie to the board can't tell you if you are crazy or not - but have you tried changing the needle or making sure the needle is in correctly?

I like your humor Tina. Yes, the needle is in correctly. I've check everything for nicks, burrs and scratches. It just seems to happen while using white thread. I tried to use process of elimination to diagnose the problem, but have not really put my finger on the problem. Thanks for trying to help me though. All suggestions are appreciated.

Are you running on auto tension or standard? What are you sewing, what type of stabilizer etc...

We were have a similar issue and put some lubricante in the red part of the feed rollers. Worked fine since.

To me, sounds like a bad roll of thread!
Just for laughs, take the spool and pull off 15 feet or so...and cut that off. Try the 'new' section of thread and see if it makes a difference!
Also, look closely at the spool in bright light-all over, different angles. Any chance something got spilled on it and absorbed by the thread causing bad or sticky thread in places?
If you have a spare roll, throw that on the same needle, same design...and if it works-you definitely have a bad roll!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm running auto acti-feed, sewing on just a regular polo shirt with a heavier tear away backing. I haven't tried margaret's suggestion about the lubricating the roller, but I'll look into that. Signman, I only had 1 roll of white thread, but I have another one on the way and as soon as i receive it, you can bet I'll be trying it to see if it remedies the problem. I did try two separate times to pull off 20 feet or so of thread to see if it would get better, per Gerald Rudischulli's suggestion- rep in N.C. , but that hasn't seemed to help. It honestly seems like the thread is thicker and more stiff than the other poly arc thread and when it begins to sew the first few stitches it acts like it is struggling to get through the eye of the needle or something of that nature, because the thread is not advancing through the take-up lever very good. Then when it begins to sew fast it doesn't seem to want to catch up and take up the loose thread causing the thread to rattle and bounce and jump around until it just pops/breaks... I'll keep trying your suggestions until we get it solved.
