  • Hook Timing

I've been having lots of inconsistent problems with thread trimming, so after trying what seems like all the normal stuff, I thought I would try adjusting the hook timing. However, I am a little stuck on one point:

You check the rotational hook timing by pressing "head up" then "bottom center" and then check the alignment of the hook point. It should be just past the left edge of the needle when looking from the front of the machine. To adjust, you loosen the screws and move the z-axis to 199.7 (on my machine) and adjust the rotation until the hook point is just peaking past the left edge of the needle. Then you check the rotational position by hitting "head up" and "bottom center". The hook point should now be just peaking past the left edge of the needle. How can the hook point be in the same place at 199.7 as it was when it was at "bottom center" (or 180)?? What am I missing?

There are two adjustments described in this section. The needle guard gap is checked and adjusted with the needle at bottom center. The rotational timing is checked and adjusted with the needle (z axis) at the position written on your machine casing. The instructions have you adjust the gap at bottom center, then the rotational timing at your particular setting, then back to bottom center to make sure you didn't mess up the gap when you adjusted the timing.

Yes, I am referring specifically to the rotational timing. The instructions say to visually check the timing first by observing the location of the hook in relation to the needle. But then it say to move the number on my machine's casing (which is obviously different than bottom center) and place the timing in the same location that it should have been when it was at "bottom center"

That doesn't make any sense to me ...

It doesn't make any sense to me either. My manual says to check the rotational timing with the z axis (the vertical position of the needle) at the number on my machine casing.
