  • Stopped trimming

    Hi group!

My Amaya XT stopped trimming for no apparent reason. I checked all the obvious places ... everything looks fine. Could not find a closeup photo of the selector and knife carrier where it connects to the push/pull cables. My selector seems unconnected and not sure if that’s supposed to be that way. The knife carrier is secured by the down-facing cable. The up-facing cable is not and this is what I’m unsure of. When I do the in/out test, it looks and moves the way it is supposed to. When trimming, it goes through the movement, makes an “empty” sound, and keeps sewing. Any advice?

I don't have an XT so I can't help other than to suggest that you check for bent pushrods. Try looking at this posting:

Hopefully someone who can help will jump in here.

Spoke with Hugo last night and we determined the selector cable was bent. Learned that this happens sometimes if the canal in the selector gets lint buildup. The buildup causes resistance when trying to move in/out. Sure enough, I found a tiny ball of lint right where he said. Hugo came today and replaced the cable. All back up and running smoothly.

Hugo is the best! Lesson learned: clean the selector blade and knife regularly!

        Thank you Hugo!

I'm glad you found help. There have been a number of posts in the past few years with others experiencing this very problem, which is why I suggested the posting on pushrods.

Everybody, clean out your trimmer area regularly!
