Globe squewd when sewing on ball cap

I have digitized a design with a body holding a globe. It sews out beautifully on a flat, perfectly round. When I sew it on a ball cap, it get warped, elongates and tilts up to the right. Anyone have this problem or have any suggestions as to what is happening. I started from scratch and completely re-digitized the design. Help please....Thanks

Are you stitching the design from the bottom up and center out? That's they way you're supposed to sew the design out on ball caps.

Hi Barb,
Be sure to hoop the cap as tightly and flat as you can and use cap backing to help stabilize the sewout. MJ is correct in that you want to stitch the cap from the bottom up and from center out so the fabric doesn't bunch up down toward the brim creating a bubble effect. What you are experiencing is "push and pull" due to the direction the stitches are going and the curve of the cap.

I am sewing center out, bottom to top. The top circle (globe) is being sewn bottom to top, with stitch direction at 90 degrees. Should I change the stitch direction? to maybe, 180 degrees?

Do you have adequate underlay under the circle?

Change your direction to anything other than 0,90,180 or 270.
These directions give you them most pull on your fabric. Strange, but just the way the thing works.

Thank you so much for posting this about direction. I found that using 127 does a good job on many designs and often wondered why. Found that setting simply by trial and error. I often wondered why so now perhaps I will just be satisfied with 'just the way the thing works'.

I love all the little things I find out on this list.
