  • Thread wound around inside

I had thread come out of the needle while stitching and it got wound all around inside. Is there any way to get to the inner white gear (behind the take up lever) to remove the wound thread from around it, or will I need a tech to come out to clear it out for me?
    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thank you,
    Natalie

    Natalie,
Not sure if you're still out there listening but here's an answer to your question over a week late...
The white gears that are a part of the thread feed assembly do not come out easily. The entire assembly must be removed and then dissassembled. Sometimes, depending on what needs to be done, it might be suggested that you purchase a new, complete, thread feed assembly for $250 from Melco and have a tech install rather than spend your money on the tech's labor to dissassemble and reassemble and then reinstall.
Do the best you can to remove the thread with patience and with an unwrapping motion as opposed to a pulling action. This will only cause the thread to get tighter around the gear.
Another option is to simply call your machine a 15 needle machine. I doubt you'll miss one needle.
Now if the white gear you are describing is the single, thread feed drive gear that stands alone on the right side of the gear housing, then it is imperative that you get this thread out of this gear or you won't be able to sew on any of the needles on the machine.
Again, do the best you can to get as much out but you might have to unscrew the drive gear's post to get the rest out.
    Hope this helps,
    Ed
