Thread pulling out of needle

Can someone give me some suggestions for the thread pulling out of the needle before it forms a stitch? I do have it threaded correctly, have changed needles, have made sure needle inserted correctly, adjusted acti feed (sewing on 3 on a knit fabric).
As the needle descends the thread just comes out.

Have you checked the tail length?
It is under settings, machine. It should be at med or long.

The tail length is set at med. By the way it is an Amaya XT.
