• Machine will not do anything!!

I have an Amaya XT just 9 months old. Yesterday I was stitching names on soccer jerseys and the collar of the jersey got sucked into the bobbin area. I got everything out relatively uneventful. Wasn't bad. I put something else in to stitch and the needle made horrible sound and broke. I took the needle plate off to observe and called Melco. David sent me the instructions for setting my rotary hook timing. I decided last night to just turn everything off and start fresh this morning. When I turn my machine on, it doesn't beep or adjust itself or nothing. Sometimes it quickly flashes x motor timed out. I can hear the fan running. The light comes on. I cannot get it to move by going into Maintenance -- Head Timing-- head up or bottom center. Everytime I go in these menus I get "Color change stepper index error - off index while sewing." Is there a reset button of some kind? Why won't the machine do anything. Last night before I turned the machine off it was moving fine, I could change needle positions, could do head up and bottom center. I turned off and then back on this morning and it won't do a thing. Any suggestions???? I still have the needle plate off and the screws loosened but that's all I have done to the machine.

One last thing, if I push the EStop in and then release it, the dark gray part (where you screw your arms into that hold your hoops) will jerk quickly to the left about 1/8" but that's it.

Thanks for any help

Chrissy,
First off, I don't recommend that most folks mess with their rotary hook timing. If in fact your hook timing was compromised by the soccer jersey, you could have other troubles as well.
However, I do suggest you use those same instructions for "checking" your hook timing. But I could tell you what to look for just be standing in front of the machine without any instructions.
Now, on to your bigger problems...
When the machine turns on, it must initialize with the computer. Is there a chance the network cable was disconnected for any reason. Or if you are using a "hub", does it have power applied?
Make sure the emergency stop button is not pushed in.
Also, make sure the software is open before turning on the machine. Sometimes, if the machine is on first and then you open the software, the two may not link up correctly.
If you are, in fact, experiencing a serious problem, you would want to talk with Melco's service department about this as your machine is still under warranty. Not saying the warranty will cover this but you also don't want to cause any further problems by digging in areas you shouldn't as some customers sometimes do.
Let us know what happens.

Hi Ed. Thanks for replying. The soccer jersey was a youth and the neck pulled somehow into the rotary hook/bobbin area. Last night when I began this process I was stressed so I thought I would just start fresh this morning. I turned my computer off and pushed in my E Stop until this morning. My machine does initialize with the computer RSA little clock, etc. Got my OS on and then turned on machine. I have talked many times with Melco and after they sent me the instructions on inspecting and resetting my timing, that's about all I've gotten from them other than saying don't spend a lot of time on this, call a tech. In an effort of trying to set the timing, I click on head up and I get "color change stepper index error - off index while sewing." Therefore, without the machine allowing me to do head up or bottom center, I can't continue with the timing. I have deleted the jobs and machines and then turned everything back on, as suggested by Melco. Still same message. I would love to speak with anyone. I can be reached at 615-260-0240 or I will be glad to call you if you'll give your number. Thanks for any assistance.

Ok. Just to close this chapter. I inspected and then reset the hook timing and then I had issues with the needle carriage not moving past the 7th needle. I reset the needle calibration for each needle, rebooted computer and Amaya and things are working perfectly . . . so far ) Thank you to Ed for replying and for those who called!!!
