  • Amaya Malfunction

Hello, my name is Mark and I am new to this forum. I have two Amaya's and am having trouble with one right now. It happened the first time a couple weeks ago. In the middle of a design the lights shut off for a split second and when they came back on the hoop arms flew backward and the needle crashed into the front of the hoop and broke. It seemed like there was a power loss but just to this machine and then once it came back up it had no idea what it was supposed to be doing. The computer showed the icon loadeing RSA and CSA just like it does when you first power it up. Melco sent me out the most updated software and I installed it. It happened again with just a name drop last night. Same deal. Any ideas? Only one of the Amaya's is doing this. They are connected via a router to my computer. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Are they new or used machines? Is the cable new or used?
My guess, since the lights flickered-is you have a lose wire or connection in your POWER cord to that machine...and when running, it might be jiggling it just enough to break the connection long enough to send a 'disconnected from master' signal or whatever it gives for a message.
For simple diagnostic to start...pull the plugs on both, compare ends...any loose 'plug pins' comparing one to the other? Is the cord yanked out of the plug-wires showing? If yes-replace the male plug and or the entire length of cord back to the box in the amaya. Nothing different here?
Check the outlet itself...plug in a desklight or something easy to one outlet, wiggle it around-then switch to the other one. I've had outlets go 'bad' just on one side-drives you nuts thinking you've lost power to the box when the other outlet hole works. Nothing here?
Then you've ruled out the easy stuff.
Double check your 'network' cord next, if you have a spare, try that one. See if wiggling the original first makes the lights blink or computer error window come up. Nothing happening here?
Then it's beyond my ability...but as far as I would go with trouble shooting. Unfortunately,
might be time to call the tech!
Hope some of this helps and you find the problem!
But chances are good, all this is the first thing a tech is going to check out...

Thank you Signman. I purchased the problem machine 2 years ago, New. My second machine no problems yet, is 6 months old, bought new as well. They are connected to different surge protectors. I will try all your ideas. Much appreciated.

John, is the power supply something a tech would need to repair?

I had the same problem when I got my used machine but only when I used it for any length of time. It finally boiled down to replacing my main board which I did with the instruction of the tech that was easy as pie.

            Good Luck!

SYE - Main board could be the issue too - but it won't be cheap! Replacing a power supply isn't too hard but it depends on your skill set. Best to call melco support and see what they suggest.

SYE - Is there any other device apart from the PC and the 2nd machine plugged into the router.
We have seen a similar occurance where a customer had connected their machine through a router with other devices connected to the network.
Once all other devices were removed, the fault disappeared.

I agree with John that you should call Melco as my situation was not an easy diagnostic we did other things as well to where it led us to the main board.

                    Definitely call Melco!
