  • Size and Style of Monitor

I currently have a 17 inch screen(standard). It's time to buy new, what display are you using?
I do like to digitize so I don't want it to look distorted.
If you can't tell, I'm not a computer geek.

I've been switching everything over to HP 19" flat screens-up to 5 of them so far, and only 1 is on a PC, others are all on macs!
I wait until Staples has them on sale, no freight charges...usually anywhere from $159 to $189. As soon as you see one advertised, get right there-there will be limited numbers of them!
I do a ton of graphic work-embrodiery is only a minimal sideline-so now I'm waiting for them to have another special on the 24" or 30" flat screen TV...I already have the patch cord-at that size, buying the tv is half the price of buying the same size as a monitor!

      Hi Herb:

For the money, it's hard to beat Westinghouse Digital's LCDs. You can get a 22" widescreen right now at Best Buy for $299

I own 3 different Westinghouse monitors and love them. Clarity and Contrast Ratio are very good as are color.

The one I use daily is a 24" which now has been replaced with a 25" and looks like the one above - and has just about every input imaginable. I also have a 19" version out in my garage (yes - I have a garage computer).

I've owned a lot of monitors over the years working in I.T. and we currently have a 21" Dell Widescreen, A 17" Sony Standard Screen, 21" Viewsonic Standard Screen and now a 19" Lenovo Widescreen.

By far, I prefer the 2 Westinghouse Monitors.

I have duel Dell 24" monitors which works great for me. It is awesome for multi-tasking. You will probably only need one though.
I also use my 57" TV for my laptop so I can surf the internet and watch TV at the same time.

Thanks for the info, I'll just have to go shopping this weekend.

Concerning the dual monitors, can you have Design Shop on one and Amaya OS on the other?

I've been using my monitor for eight years and nothing is wrong with it except my eyes seem to be getting older faster than the rest of me. Maybe I could just add another monitor?

          Thanks again!

I got some info from Zones (on line computer supplier) about their dual monitor hookup-its around $299 I think...and does allow 'split screen' or different programs running. But if running both programs on your computer already slows you down (like my old turtle here) having dual monitors will not speed you up one bit-because you are still running off one computer.
If I had to upgrade from DesignShop 6 to 7 I'd have to get a newer computer, but since I'm running an original big red-I see no need to go up a version.

              Herb,
You need a video card that supports dual monitors in order to set it up. That alone is about $100 - $150. Or add a second video card which may be tricky for a non-technical person. I'm not sure if you want to spend that much on it but it does make my life on the computer much easier.
As far as running software on dual monitors, if it is a different window, it can be moved from one monitor to the other. I don't have an Amaya so I have no reason to run the Amaya OS so that is the best answer I can give you.
Dual monitors is a love it or hate it feature.

Thanks evryone, for your thoughts on the monitors. I've seen quite a number of the Westinghouse ones advertised lately and the prices are good. I, too, have been wanting a larger monitor for digitizing.

I had a 19" VieuwSonic that had very good colors throughout the screen. Have now a Flatscreen 23" Westinghouse. Love the size but hate the color because there is a huge difference in color from top to the bottom

For anyone looking for a monitor, I would suggest this website to read the reviews on it before purchasing it http://reviews.cnet.com/computer-mon...2_6&sa=1000036

You should take it back - that shouldn't happen. I have no problems with color on the 3 I own - in fact, I have a pantone huey that I use to color calibrate them with.
