• Bobbin Case adjustment.

I was recently sewing a canvas bag when the lining in the bag got caught up and for lack of a better term "jammed things up". I carefully got everything unstuck, but when I started up the machine I noticed that the bobbin was no longer horizontal and causing needle breaks. I loosened the bar that holds the bobbin case and rotated the case to where the bar rests in the groove. The bobbin is again horizontal. The Amaya is again sewing, however, it seems to have a little more of a problem starting a stitch, the thread doesn't always catch the bobbin thread and eventually pulls from the needle. My question is..... Is there a particular adjustment or technique for installing the bobbin case hold-down bar? It seems the bobbin thread does run thru the groove. Is there anything else I should look at to make sure all is well? Appreciate any help. Thanks

A gapper came with your Amaya. It looks like a flag with a short pole. The pole is the thing you stick behind the little thingy that fits in the notch. Press the thingy fairly tight against the gapper and tighten the screws. This MAY solve your problem.

Sorry, I just don't know what to call all the little parts.

The "gapper" is a gauge. Bend the little tip to about a 45 degree angle so it makes it easier to get into the notch in the rotary hook basket. That little thingy, being referred to, is called the retaining support finger. Juli is right to suggest this....it must be gauged properly for the machine to operate correctly.

A parts CD is supplied with your machine and it is very easy to use. With it, you can quickly identify any part in the machine, visually, and call it by name so the thingy that is operating the thingy in front of them can more accuately tell those thingies in Denver which one of the thingy's things are mis-behaving....sorry couldn't resist...

Thank you, Rod. We, in Hawaii, would call it a "da kin" as in "the kind". But I thought "thingy" described it pretty well.

I wish I could figure out how to put a short video on YouTube to show all these simple, but oh so very important, things. My granddaughter is home from school next week - I'm sure she knows how to do that. I'll get her to show me. Sometimes it is just hard to get things down in words and a video would be so simple.

So, Theresa, did you find the gauge and set the gap behind the retaining support finger? Did that fix the problem?

A million Thank You's to Juli and Rod.

First, I never knew there was a feeler guage nor a CD in my package, at least not until I removed the foam packaging in the Operators kit. Wouldn't you know it, it was underneath the foam. Following the procedure on the CD, I have adjusted the support finger and all is well. I'm just so pleased my thingy is back to normal

Thanks again for all your help. It is very much appreciated.
