  • restarts on fills

When the bobbin thread runs out during a fill stitch or there is a thread break, the restart always leaves loose thread on the top. Is there a setting to prevent this?
This just happened on my XT. I don't know if it also happens on my old red, but it's a common problem for me.
    Thanks for any input,
    Mary

Do you 'back up' the stitching before you restart?
We always use tweezers and pull the loose thread up until it stops coming out, clip it right down short-then back up the stitching 6 or so stitches behind that point. When it restarts, if there is a 'tail' left we cut that off afterwards and hit the spot with a dot of Fray Check.

Yes, I do back it up and trim like you said. When I cna, I back up to a place where it will be stitched over so as to minimize problems with threads pulling out.
What it looks like is that the "inching" stitches are laying on the surface of the fill. The bobbin thread is getting engaged during this time, so it must be happening during that process while the machine speed is very slow. I have my inch count at 5, auto feed on with a lower limit of 3. Any ideas about my settings being incorrect?
      Thanks,
