  • hook timing off.

I am frustrated! Yesterday I was having a lot of problems with birdnests under the hoop and thread breaking so other half decided he needed to take the rotary hook guides loose and take it all apart to clean it out. After that the breaks were even worse. Would sew maybe 3 stitches and break - lots of nesting etc. We discovered he had neglected to put the hook guard back in the gap at the top of the bobbin case. Now the rotary hook timing is off and even with using the manual on the cd we worked for 3 hours without being able to get the hook timing lined back up. We would get the z axis to 200 and when we do the rotary hook is way off to the right with the needle up. Its lined up right with the hook down. Any suggestions? Ck

    Dear Frustrated CK,
I'm guessing by now you've contacted Melco's service dept. as of Friday. If you're still in a pickle of a situation, consider this.
As long as your better half didn't loosen the three screws on the rotary hook, I'll bet there's a good chance we can get you up and going again. I see this all the time. A customer disassembles all the screws around the rotary hook simply to clean out tangled thread and then they don't put things back as they were due to lack of training in this area.
If the three screws on the outside edge of the rotary hook were loosened, then I believe you will need a tech to visit and set things straight. There is a little too much information here that is needed to get your hook timing back where it needs to be.
As for your original problem, I'm thinking you hadn't lubricated your thread feed pinch rollers frequently enough and this was causing the thread to "kick off" to one side and out from under the red pinch roller which resulted in a bird's nest under the needle plate. Then you removed the rotary hook support to clean out the tangled thread but did not set it back to it's correct position which resulted in even more thread breaks.
If you believe me to be on track, give me a call and we'll see where you're at.
    Sincerely,
    Ed Orantes

Thanks Ed. I did reach tech support on thursday. Twice actually. They talked me thru getting it back inline in under 30 minutes. Of course though the next time I went to use it I got a z axis tracking error and then a stepper error. When I got to looking the thread selector was stuck in the out position ( hence the second tech support call). Both the guys were very helpful and courteous. But I'll keep your number around just in case. *l* I don't get my 4 day training until april...soooo..
