  • thread trim not trimming

not all the time does my machine do this ,but , sometimes when my machine goes to trim the thread it doesn't and then it goes to stitch somewhere else pulling on my hoop and usually messing up my design

Aside from other causes of the problem-usually when my big red does this-it means I need to set the presser foot down 1 or 2 clicks. I keep forgetting to reset it when changing items for sewing-and if it is too high there isn't enough tension on the thread for it to cut.

My XT was doing this on every needle. I cleaned under the needle plate and put oil in the little hole according to the maintenance CD that came with my machine. Works great now.

I performed the same maintenance as Barbara when I had this problem and my machine trimmed perfectly afterward. I would suggest using the compressed air followed by the brush. The compressed air alone seems to just blow everything around, but without it you don't get those hard to reach places. I'm always surprised by the amount of fiber buildup under the needle plate! Good luck.

I tried cleaning out under the needle plate and oiling, but it still will not trim any time. Any ideas or will this require a tech?

If you have a rather model machine and the latest OS, you can hit the left arrow and the up arrow at the same time and that will reset the trimmer. This is a new feature of the new OS. this was driveing me insane until I learned about that little trick. If that is not the problem, there is no harm caused by hitting those two keys together. Worth a try.

As I am not sure what model AMAYA you have I would suggest the following:
                1. Remove needle plate and perform Trim via the keypad.
                2. If machine is original Red AMAYA and the trimmer does not move, then I would look for see if the linkage to the knife is connected. If this is connected, then I would check if the trimmer motor's cable is connected.
If the machine is an XT AMAYA and the trimmer and selector do not move, then I would check if the push pull cables connected to them are not broken. If they are not broken and the knife and/or selector do not move, then I would check the knife and selector motor cables are connected correctly.
                3. If the trimmer does move, then the possibility of lint stopping the knife from moving the full distance could be a problem.
On the Red AMAYA clean all around the trimmer, ensuring there is no buildup of lint or thread.
On an XT AMAYA, remove the retaining clip that holds the knide and selector in position, remove the knife. Clean the knife, selector and also the pin they sit on. We often clean lint off this pin when customers have problems trimming due to the knife and/or selector not being able to return fully to complete the trim.
                Cheers
