  • I really did it this time.

Well, I traced my design, and everything looked good. Then I started sewing, and low and behold my needle slams the hoop. I am not sure what to do about it, and was hoping someone could help diagnose (or potentially fix) the issue.

Now when I do a dry run (no hoop or garment) everything works just fine - but when I add a garment to the machine, the needle seems to bang at the top of the needlecase. It is like the presser foot got pushed up in the machine or something. I do not understand why it seems to run fine without a garment but "bang" with a garment, no matter how high I set the presser foot.

Has anyone ever had/heard of this happening? Oh, it is an Amaya XT.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Do you have you hoop limit set for on or off?

      EMason6,
Please describe what you mean by a dry run. Meaning without a hoop or garment - yes I know but is the thread in the thread path? Are you turning off the thread break detection to do this? I'm not sure of your experience level so I don't want to assume anything.

We had the problem with the trace working fine but the sewout hitting the hoop over a year ago-original big red...and never did find out what caused it! Changed the design, started over new 'page' from scratch-ended up getting the instructions on deleting some files from a folder to 'clean out the cobwebs' and it worked perfect from there. I have them written down somewhere and I know they've been posted here a few times.
As for a 'banging' we heard that in the needle case-really sounded bad-and then one needle bar seized right up-nothing could move it. Tech diagnosed it over the phone-this was before the 'oil drop' count was drastically increased in routine maintainence. Problem was running the same threads on the same needles permanently (black, white, red, etc.) and those needle bars would evaporate the oil in the felt lubrication points faster than other places-it would overheat, start to bang (run dry) and then seize up. Now we change the spool positions at least half way across the board-and the 'major colors' are never placed next to each other. If you are hearing this banging, open up the magnetic cover over the needle bars and put a couple drops of oil on top and bottom of the needle bars-then run it again on the same colors you were hearing the noise. If it starts to change or even disappears-there's your problem-lack of oil where it is needed the most! If your pressor foot is off-you should see that when you do the 'center needle' alignment-it should not be touching anything. Easily bent slightly to fix it.

I am not up to speed on the technical terms of the machine, so I will try to explain it the best I can. If I have hooped garment (or any cloth) on the machine, and "pretend" like I am sewing (everything hooped, except the needle is not threaded) everything is fine. However, when I thread the needle, and start to sew, it makes a popping sound and it seems like something is hitting. All of the needles (the little black levers at the top)move a little when sewing, and it sounds like this is where the noise is coming from. It does not matter how high or low I have the presser foot.

I am not changing any machine settings (other than acti-feed), and the hoop detection is turned on. It doesn't matter what needle I am using, they all do the same thing. The presser foot desn't look bent, and with my untrained eyes nothing seems to be out of place on the back of the needlecase - everything is still in the runners.

This is really frustrating, and I know it is probably nothing major, but until I diagnose it I am staying away from using this machine. Thank goodness for a backup.

PS: Sorry for not being able to explain it better.
