  • Cutter only cuts 40% of the time

    Hi,

We have two XT machines, about 3 months old.
One machine the cutter tries to cut the thread but it does not cut about 40% of the time. Is there an adjustment, should I replace the blade (not much use yet), is there something else that needs to be adjusted to get it to cut better?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve,

We have three XT machines which are about 5 months old. Two of our three had the same problem as what you described. We called Melco service and they sent a tech out who re-adjusted the trimmers.

Since then we have had another occurance of one machine not trimming worth a hoot - that turned out to be a wad of thread stuck in the trimmers. I was able to clean it out myself and it has worked fine ever since.

If you decide to attempt to clean the trimmers yourself, just be careful not to move the trimmer assembly.

    Hope this helps,

Try pulling off the needle plate and clean it out. Take out the bobbin case when you clean it out so thread pieces don't go into the bobbin itself. Be careful if you are using the brush to do it that you don't damage anything. If you have had any "birds nests" recently, this could cause thread pieces to get stuck down in there and cause trimmer problems. I sometimes use compressed air to blow out thread pieces that the brush can't reach. (All computer retailers sell it.)
