  • thread wrapping around behind bobbin

I am having repeated problems with thread getting wound around the shaft behind the bobbin case. Several times a week it causes thread breaks and I find thread back there. Also more recently have been having problems with the cutter not trimming thread. I dont knowif its causing the thread wrapping or a result of it. We have readjusted the timing- which we need to do once or twice a week. What could be the cause of these problems?

Something is not sounding right here. Are you saying you have to reset your hook timing that often? Can you make a correlation with the color of thread wrapping around the shaft to when you sew that color? Are you seeing issues at the time you sew it?

Yes, the timing needs adjusted very very often. I think something is wrong that is causing all this, I just dont see what it is. The nearest tech is $250 away so I hope to figure it out on my own.

Can you take a few moments and describe your hook timing procedure? Try to be as detailed as possible. Also let us know where/how you learned to do the hook timing.

We follow the steps in the manual called "Hook Timing Procedure." We follow all the steps.

Okay, that is good. Just trying to get everything straight here. Must assume you are doing things correctly and getting the screws tight, etc. Here is the quagmire, if the hook is tight on the Z-Axis shaft it should not change position barring contact with some foreign object. If the hook is not moving then the Z-Axis shaft itself (with hook solidly attached) must be changing position. This could be why you have to re-time the hook so often.

              Gini,

What kind of machine do you have Amaya or Amaya XT and is it still under warranty?

As Herb said, reseting the hook timing so often is an indication that something is slipping. Besides your hook timing position not being in the same place there are other setting that will change when this is happening. I'de rather not get into it on the boards though, the symptoms that you desribe could be related to many other issues.

If you like too , call me and I'll have you check a couple of things over the phone and at least I can help you determine whether your next step would be to schedule a call with someone.
