  • needle plate broke

I tried to stitch a cap and my needle broke. The small raised piece of the needle plate popped up. Why?

Could it be caused by :

    - birdnesting on the backside of your design ?

    - a faulty needle plate ?

There was no birdnesting. I'm not sure about the neddle plate. I popped it back together, but am afraid to try again.

The small raised piece you are referring to is a press fit into the needle plate. I suppose that you could do a temporary fix and super-glue it down but it does need to be replaced.

Several of the folks on this forum have been using the flat needle plate on the standard Amaya and using the presser foot just as you would on flat sewing to hold the cap down to prevent flaging. If you want to try this, it is best to remove the side wings off the cap driver. The side wings are used with the raised needle plate to help level out the curved surface of the cylinder. I have tried this and it seems to work just fine.....but get that presser foot down to prevent flagging....
