  • Cap frame driver

    Good afternoon
is it just me or does it seem in this business as soon as you have one problem licked another pops up? I am sewing hats today and one of the metal screws that attach the cap frame driver to the machine shears off. Now this is the 4th one in a year I have replaced. I try not to tighten them to tight as that seems to cause them to shear off sooner, yet you have to have them tight enough not to shake loose.
Has anyone come up with a substitue screw or knob that is of sturdier material to replace these? It always happens during sewing causing the cap frame to get out of alignment, and the sewing to be off. Then after fixing it is virtually impossible to continue sewing that hat.

The scews I am referring to are the 2 large knobs with flat bottoms that hold the driver onto the beam of the Amaya XT. Anyone else experiencing this? Is Melco looking to improve the type of material these are made of?

We snapped off the screws that hold the hoop arms on several times...ended up with a friend in a micromachine shop made us some stainless steel ones that are great-haven't broken one since. I was told by a tech that Melco did come out with a better one you can order that won't break so easy.
I think the original ones were brass? I know they didn't hold up at all-the philip screwdriver messed up all the heads on them fast.

if you are breaking screws on your machine you are putting too much torque on them. Put the screws in finger tight, then turn them 1/8 turn maximum with the allen wrench. May not seem tight to you but if you look at the thread diameter this is all it needs. Been doing it this way for 5+ years, no broken bolts, no stripped threads.
