  • Running 1/4" satin stitch and making a Loud Horrible Noise

I am making some little pouches and it has a
thick satin stitch step. When running one of
my Amayas, it makes a loud loud noise and sounds
like it is going to fall apart. I ran the design
on my other Amaya and it is fine.
Does anyone know what may be wrong?
I have had no other problems running this machine.
All maintenance is current, I oil as directed etc.
    No short cuts!
    What should I look at???

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

The first thing to consider is the X axis cable tension. How "thick" wide? is this satin stitch?

About 1/4". I ran it on my other machine today with no problems. Is there something I can check. I hate to run the machine if there is something wrong with it.
      THank you!

        Pam,

The X axis cable tension can affect the registration of the machine, especially with column stitching. If the cables get stretched and are in a loose condition, the machine can get quite noisy.

Techs use a force guage to measure and adjust the correct tension of the cables. Melco may have supplied you with a flat x cable tensioning guage, I don't know...The cables need to be a 10 lbs, + or - .5lbs. The guage if used properly will get you close to this n lew of having the pricy force guage we use.

It is not so much a mater of there being something "wrong" with the machine when the X axis cables tension is the issue, it is a matter of adjustment. We, at this point, are only assuming that this may be the culprit.

Check your Help section in AOS and in the Tech manual, do a search for X cable tensioning. This will help you to understand what may be happening to your machine.

I agree with Rod. My first machine made that noise and as a rookie I had no Idea what was going on so I would just stop the machine and hit start again. Well finally I called a Tech and he adjusted the cables and the machine sewed like never before. BUT because of the strain when it was out of adjustment it wore the bearings on the Z-motor and one day it quit. $1200.00 later I was back in business. In other words get it adjusted now or perhaps pay big time later.

There are days when I still feel like a rookie

I have a machine I have had to adjust due to loud vibrating noises as well. My question, for the techs out there, is how many times should I do this before I look at replacing the cable?

If you are sure it is the cables, when they run out of adjustment or break, it is time to call a tech!

Thank you for all the tips. I will do some research
on the X cable. If I know where to go, I should be able to check it.
The machine runs fine, other than that one design that has a wide satin stitch.
I will let you know what I find out and thanks again for all the great tips and advice.
                I appreciate it very much!
