  • x motor?

i have a big red, it doesnt track very good.(if you do a large circle outline with an edge stitch, the edge stitch will be off on one or more sides.) i have only owned this machine for a couple of months but the same design works fine on my other machine. i do hear a humming almost a grinding but i dont think it is grinding, type noise when the machine is running slow or just starting up. big red, os 7
    thanks

the first thing to have done is to get the X cable tension adjusted.....

You are usually going to have problems with the cap frame first if the x-cable is loose- it puts more stress on this cable- that is why you hear the noises while using it first.

Not that I know anything, but wouldn't an AMPASS test be helpful so that Fourstate can be sure that the x cable tension is the problem?

If he puts a little extra tension on the cable (press down on cable slightly on left side-lower) while machine is running and the noise dissipates or disappears, it is the x-cable tension. Wait for the gauge and do the adjustment within parameters.

Too Tight???? I have not found the cables on the Reds to be very tight in 99% of the ones I have checked over the years...My guess is that this cable is still loose...be very careful with the instructions with this guage. Techs use a Force guage, which in my opinion, is still a more precise way to check and adjust the X cable tension, but is a far more expensive tool. You must pay very close attention to the instructions and try to be as precise as you can.

The Reds can present a much more difficult problem in the X cable adjustment than the XT series. If all the adjustment is taken out of the left side with the spring and nut then the cable must be also adjusted from the right side of the machine to stretch the cable , BUT...if you dive into this area you may get yourself into a bunch of trouble. You could stretch the pigtail too much and break it. You could allow too much slack in the cable when loosening the u-bolt clamp and allow the cable to "un-wind" from the shaft in the back of the machine....if you don't know exacly what you are doing in this area, it would be far better to bite the bullet and call on a tech to go over the machine....there may be something more serious happening to the machine if the cable is adjusted properly and it is still growling...

                  thanks
