  • Cap driver part

I have one cap driver that the very middle silver round tube has become detached from the driver. This is the piece that the large stationary rod fits thru. Can anyone tell me how to secure this part in the driver again? When I try to sew caps it works out of the middle of the driver causing play and wrecks the stitching. I have oiled the two rod areas so there is no friction but still having this issue.

    Thanks

Mine are attached to the rest of the driver with 4 bolts. Are your bolts loose or missing? These are the bolts I loosen to adjust the gap between the ring and the needleplate (hardly ever have to do this after the initial time).

      Cindy,

The lower rod ( the smaller rod of the two ) seems to be a weak point in the cap driver support area. I have seen many of these that have broken because of fatigue from vibration.

The rod is held in place by a roll pin. The pin must be tapped out with a punch of some kind (drift punch tool) a new rod put in and the roll pin replaced.

        Rod,

It sounds to me as if the center bearing is working its way out. I had to read the post a couple of times to figure out that it was not the support rods she is referring to. I have had the support rods fail but never had a bearing or seal come out of the driver.

          Cindy,

Are you talking about the long rod coming out of the driver or the center "hub" of the driver itself?

            Steve,

After reading it again, it may be that she has the older style cap driver and not the " XT Extended version."

            Cindy,

Do you have the cap driver where the two rods are separate and apart from the driver cylinder? The XT Extended version has two rods attached to a dovetail bracket that slide into a dovetail slot on the underneath side of the sewing arm and can stay there after sliding the capdriver cylinder off. The older version is a one piece assembly where the rods and the cylinder come off together.

            Which one do you have?
