  • Largest hoop for Amaya XT

Can someone tell me what the absolute largest hoop is for the Amaya XT. I have the large wooden hoop that came with my machine but need one slightly larger. The corners of the hoop are so rounded that I am losing a lot of sewing area. I have a design that is square and I need a little extra space in the 4 corners if possible.

I know large hoops are pricey so I don't want to waste money buying one only to find it doesn't help my situation when it gets here.

    Any advice appreciated.

The largest I know of is the tubular sash frame and I have a kit for sale in the marketplace discussion.

      Hi Mary,

Can you direct me to the link for it on Melco so I can read about it. Is it the one that comes with the extra set of arms to add to width? I think it shows 53 cm x 43 cm.

I will look at the marketplace discussion. I haven't ever been to that part of the users list.

Yes the kit has special arms and the hoop is 53 x 43 cm. Full width. you can select that hoop in your OS and see if your design fits.
        Market place link is:

OK, that is certainly wider than I have now. Can you tell me it's condition? Did you use it much?

We use a tubular sash for most of our work. Although it is listed at 53cm across, the actual width available for embroidery is a little more than 16". It is also rounded at the corners, so you could not do a square this size. If you'd like me to figure out the largest square that you could embroider, I'd be glad to do it. You may also want to look at the recent posting under How do I? called "large hooping problem."

Thanks I will look at that.

I don't really need much extra room in the corners. For this particular design even 1/4 inch would be wonderful.

Would it not be easier to reduce the design size by that 1/4"??

Oh, how I wish I could do that. It is not a design that can be reduced. It was digitized to perfectly match a square that will have an embroidered design on it that is 10 inches square on a 12 3/4 x 12 3/4 piece of fabric leaving 1/4 inch all around for sewing.

The lace square is filet crochet look FSL that is 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. The stitches are already so tiny that I just don't think it should be downsized at all.

It is those corners that are causing the trouble. I am using my large wood hoop but the corners are really rounded off so the corner points are dangerously near the hoop. I have so many to do that I would really like to have a slightly larger hoop so it would not be such a hassle to deal with each time I stitch one of them. I had one yesterday that hit the hoop edge at the end.

I had hoped to find a hoop that was slightly larger with more stitching area in the corners. The largest one has to have the extra arms and all that is more than I had hoped to have to spend. I may have to go that route though.

I checked the Durkee site and they don't have the large hoops for the Amaya.

Thanks for the suggestion. That was my first inclination but it has to be stitched exactly as it is.

The large jacket back hoop will fit a 12 1/2 " square easily.
It is not the sash frame so you don't need special arms

                    it measures 15 3/4" x 16 1/2"

I dont think it comes with most machines.

I have done many 13" quilt block in it.

                    hope this helps.

I am now wondering what I have. It is a wood hoop that the 'inside' measurements are 16 1/2 x 15 3/4. The design is 12 1/2 inches square which makes the diagonal of the design about 17 3/4. The entire design is solid stitches and it stitches all the way to the corners. If my hoop corners were not so rounded off it would be fine. The design is within 3/8" of the hoop in all 4 corners. The corners on the left side are not so much a problem. On the right side is where it hit the hoop because when the needle comes down the foot slants to the right. It is that slant that hits the double height wood hoop corner.

I just finished one and this one did not hit the corner. I am relieved but the whole thing is really stressing me out. For this one after centering I adjusted the X Distance a + 30 and the Y Distance a + 50 which moved the design slightly away from the upper right corner where the biggest problem was.

I thought I had the design saved with that setting but the time before this stitch out it apparently did not save my new settings and just centered it. It is such a very small adjustment I couldn't tell that it did not keep my change so it hit the hoop that time.

Do you know if there is a way to save the design to keep it center then an X +30 and Y +50. Or should I just reset all that each time. It may do it and I just haven't used it before and don't know how it works.

I do still want to try to find a hoop that will not be so close to the corners if I can.

I think I could also do a 13" quilt block in this hoop if it did not stitch to each absolute corner.

Thanks for your information. I made a photo of the finished one on the corner. Can I send it to you?

                        Marcelle,
It's in great condition. The hoop fits well in the corners, no gaps. If you're interested, please let me know off line.

                          Mary,

I am first going to try the next larger hoop that I found on the Melco site. If that doesn't work I will get back to you if you still have yours.

                          Thanks,
                          Marcelle Lewis
