Thread Feed Roller change out...

Hello all,

I have a very simple question.
I am new to the Amaya, I just purchased a 2004 machine and the #1 and #12 thread keeps coming off the wheels. So I purchased the 16 roller replacement kit.

1. should I only replace the ones that are giving me problems?
2. replace all of them at once?

I have taken out all the lower rollers, but am having problems with the red top roller on the #1 position. Its so close to the edge I cannot get it to come completely out. I dont want to just pry the lever to the left to get it out, but dont know how to get it out otherwise. Help on this one is a must.

Otherwise physical inspection of all top rollers and bottom dont show any groves, but 1 and 12 will slip. I cleaned all rollers, still 1 and 12 slip. figure flat spot on lower roller.

Are all your black covers seated properly.
they all interlock withthe next.

also there is a magnetic cover that you can remove behind all the threads as they go down the face plate.
remove it and you ca remove the screws holding the cover in place. by pulling an extended amout of thread through the needles you can tie them together and prevent them from having to be rethreaded.
you then can pull the cover plate away far enough to get the red roller off easily.

I would guess that it is the black covers not the wheels though.

Yes I check to make sure all covers are interlocked and seated fully.

Figured out the right way to do it, start from the left not the right. they interlock easier that way.

Megnetic cover, cool, it should be easy to do then, just waiting for the repair kit to show up from UPS. Hopefully Monday..... Thanks for the info.

I will go and recheck the black covers.

Hi Jeff,

I don't know what color the rollers are on your machine (black, yellow or white). If it has been updated, they should be white. Both yellow and white ones are good.

Do take your magnetic plate off and remove the cover to get your little red pinch roller off like Greenwing told you to do.

I am going to guess you got a tiny bit of grease on the actual roller on # 1 and 12. Remove them, clean with hot soap and water (not rubbing alcohol), dry them off and replace them being careful not to get any grease on them...just on the hub. We actually train people to place the grease in the little pocket and smear around with a Q-tip that we have removed the cotton from. Then when you pop the roller back in, you won't get the grease on the roller.

As long as there are no grooves in the roller or the pinch roller, this should fix your problem.

When replacing the front cover, be sure to get the top back into the little slot on top.

OK repair kit just showed up. and just one question left.
Should I replace all or just the ones giving me problems?

I did reclean them with DAWN and warm water, still same results. ( Found DAWN dish washing soap to be the best at getting rid of any grease or oil )
1 and 12 still slipping but not all the time. they are the only ones giving problems.

I would replace all 16 roller assemblies and start out fresh. While the rollers are out, use a flashlite and carefully inspect the gears down inside of the pockets. Make sure there is no thread buildup that would cause dragging and inspect these gears carefully to see if any of them are fractured around their hub areas.

Set 1 and 12 roller assemblies aside...this includes the pinch roller, inner threadfeed roller and the faceplate cover. Use the old roller assemblies as spares. Your old ones are probably yellow in collor. The new ones are probably a white-ish color. It is best to keep everything uniform. Lubricate the new rollers prior to reassembly.

Let us know if the problem gets resolved with the new rollers....
