  • Pashmina scarves

I am embroidering about 20 pashmina scarves and the one that I did the resulted int threads of the scarf stretched and separated. I am embroidering two letter 2" x 2" satin stitches at a 3.7 density. The only underlay is a center walk stitch. The stabilizer used was one piece of tearaway with solvey on top.

Any thoughts would a great help.

This sounds similar to the cashmere throws that I was trying to get help with in the Techniques forum. I'll be watching this to see if you get any more information than I did!

3.7 density sounds awfully dense to me. And I'd try a tatami underlay with edge run. With a 2" letter, you should have more underlay than just a center run.

So, looser density, like maybe 5, and a lot more underlay. You just have to try different combinations.

Ok here is what I did with some good results.

          Solvey both top and bottom.
          Density 4.8
          Underlay edge walk at 60%
          zig zag at 60%
          Pull comp at 110%

          Thank you for your help.

I have found people have success in embroidering this using our fibrus "washaway" aka mistakenly as vilene

It does not have to be wet as the stabilizer is
s easily removed by a moist soponge or rag
THis is true esp if there is some thickness to the scarf

If you want samples pls e-mail me off list

            Sincerely
            Fred

              I'm Baaaaaaaaaaack.

Did twenty no problem. tried a different font and had problems.

Density at 5.2 double zig zag (can't find a tatami underlay)
used tearaway (looked better than an underlayer of solvey)
Increased percentage of zig zag from 60 to 85%
I have a picture but i am not sure how to attach it here.

I hope someone has some suggestions for me.

              Thanks again

All things being equal, I have found that pull compensation changes (acts differently) from font to font. For example 120 for one font may be plenty but try to sew another with the same settings and the columns are way too thin. That one may need 150. You didn't explain what problems the new font created so I was guessing at what it may be.

I like a lot of fonts that are much to skinny for embroidering. So is use the minimum column width of 1.0 to 1.3. You find that on the Pull ?Comp page.

Thanks everyone for the input. A special thank you to Jerome and Rod for emailing me.

Here is what I ended up doing thanks to Jerome for this lesson on sewing "air".

two layers of underlay both fill

layer one - border of 5, density of 15, angle of 90 degrees.

layer two border of 5 density of 20 angle of 45 degrees

used wash-away backing with a solvey on top

density of top satin stitches at 4.8

                    75/11 ballpoint at 850 spm

I was able to do all 20 of the scarves with no Pashmina thread being pulled.

                    Thanks to all!!!!!
