  • Hook timing

I have gone thru the entire hook timing procedure twice on 1 of my amaya xt's. I am still getting burrs on my needles after a few thousand stitches. So I will go thru it again. Is there some way, other than eye balling it, to get the correct distance from the back of the needle to the hook basket. It speaks of a measurement in the procedure but how do I actually measure it? Also what sewing test pattern should I try to ensure I finally have it right?

Are you setting your hook timing with your closet needle??

This is not a specfic needle every machine has a needle in the needle case that is the Closest and it should be written under your tray on the right hand side of the motherboard.
C= ? the # for the closest needle
F= ? the # for the farthest needle
    # the rotation # when it is set proper.

I know you prob. did it but just checking.

      thanks Cindy

        Cindy,

Basically, the needleguard gap is just as close as you can get it without actually touching the backside of the needle. Touching but not touching is what I usually say. This is always done, and is very important that it is always done using the closest needle.

The closest needle was determined at the factory and every machine may be different in this respect. A fancy guage($$$$$)is attached to the sewing arm that has a plunger that goes up against each individual needle one at a time. This plunger affects the guage reading in thousands of an inch. The needle that has the most negative reading will be the closest needle on that machine.

Machines that have a tremendous amount of use where not all needles are used on a regular basis may need to be reguaged sometime,as the closest needle indication may change from wear, especially if the needlebars are not properly lubricated on a regular basis. The maximum deviation on the closet vs the furtherest needle is only 6 thousands of an inch before the needlecase is deemed defective.

For example, if needle #1 measures at 0 thousands, and all the others are a larger positive number with say, needle 8 being 10 thousands, then the gap that is created may place the rotary hook point too far away from the backside of the needle to pick up the top thread and missed stitches will be the result.

        And I ramble.....

i used a small mirror (like a dentist uses)and a brighte white piece of paper on the oposite side of the mirror to check the gap than u can adjust it to the closest point without touching the needle.
