  • Bobbin not picking up

One of my machines is not picking up the bobbin thread. I have checked the needles and case and it does it on all the needles.

Has anything, no matter how small, changed before this happened? I mean this just doesn't happen out of the blue. Did something get caught in the rotary hook? I guess the hook timing could have gotten off due to a loose screw. This has happened to me twice in 2 1/2 years in running these little boogers, and both times it was the hook timing. The one time, a jacket liner got caught in the rotary hook and caused it to slip on the shaft. The other time it was on the newest of our 5 (an XTS), and I don't think the timing was set properly to begin with, or else it got off in transit; but anyway, I reset it and have had few issues with any of ours.

We had a hat frame slip and the needle carrier (or what ever it is called) came out and fell down. I think you are on the right track. How do I reset the rotary hook?

We had a retired repair man come by and he fixed the timing for the bobbin but it still is not working. The frame is moving when the needle is down he can't fix that. Any suggestions?

If it is an XT, it is probably a selector issue and you need to call a "Melco certified" technician.

Time to call a certified Melco technician. From what you just said- this is probably gonna take a service call- just doesn't sound like a telephone walk-through kind of repair. Sorry not to be of more help.

I have no idea if this could be the problem, but since I've been looking at knife and trimmer adjustments in the technical manual it came to mind. Is there any reason why your thread presser might not be retaining the bobbin thread between it and the adjustable fixed knife? Its easy enough to check and might save a service call.

From what the repair man said we will need to get a tech. My problem is we are Corpus Christi Tx and there is no techs close to us.

Ed Orantes services the Texas area. I have his phone number at my shop if you need it. He lives in Louisianna but services us too. You can also look him up on Melco's website.

I think my wife talked to him. Now its a matter of money to get him down here.
