We moved the bill stop in 1/4" from the teeth, so the cap would catch on it and have not had a problem since. Have had the 4 XTs since 2006. We fought with caps before. If you get low to the bill it shows its to low on the computer, but we just trace to make sure its ok. Have to turn off hoop limits. We use to send caps out, but now we do them in house. Never have problems any more. Try to keep the design to 2.25" tall. Bill from Fineline Emb. Manhattan, IL

I keep hoop limits on for obvious reasons, but I created my own cap hoop in the hoop manager so as not to damage any of my machines.

Gregory how far down did you change your limits to? How close to the visor?

With the conventional cap frame I can go about 3/8" from the brim. I just measured the inner dimensions of the "window" of the CCF & went under Tools> hoop setup> add hoop & the software pretty much coaches you about how to do it from there. I set my dimensions at 4" high and 6" wide.

I was speaking out of frustration, For the most part I do love my machine. I hate the way it does caps. It may be because it is the old red amaya.
I get a hat sample in from a customer and I order the exact same hat, have the logo digitized to the same size as the sample hat, when I load the hat,the hat hoop pops off the carrige. Juyst not the same sewing area.

I have both hat frames the wide angle and the old version I think its called the ccd the clamp type.
Most of my hat issues went away when I started using the old clamping style hat frame.
Also I have been getting better luck without using the raised needle plate.

Like I said maybe it's the older machine, I have used a AMAYA XT hooped everything the same, all the settings were the same and I had better luck.

As far as digitizing I have this logo that everyone wants, I can't get it to sew well. I have had it digitized numerous times by different digitizers.

I love how my machine sews flats. I hate how it sews caps.
Yes I have had training on my machine, was it good training?? I do not know, but it was from a melco trainer.

Also I use painters tape on the bill of the hat from where it rubs against the machine. It is stuff like this that makes me feel it is of less quality.
Let me also say that I have never used another machine other than an AMAYA and I may feel the same with the other brands.

I just did 12 visor with a pretty intricate logo on one of my 3 big red machines without any issues or thread breaks... and they look great. It's not the old machines.

See http://www.twitter.com/lbemb - I posted a pic of how close I could get on the CCF even without turning off hoop limits.

Herbs video here on the site really is worth the time to watch.

We do hundreds of caps a month I use the WACF exclusivly. I used to hate them untill I decided I would have to get used to them so I sold my 8 CCF frames and had to use the WACF. It didn't take very long to get great results. I have had a few slip off due to operator error. When we have a design that rubs the bill we just fold a piece of tear-away backing corner to corner so you have a triangle and use two of the cap clips to hold it on.

Lurking, listening....
Thanks for the nice comments Rod..
I am still using the cap frames that came with my original machine as well as the ones original to my XT. I have no real issues with either. I have one CCF, it has not been used in more than three years. If one is having issues with caps popping off, you are not hooping correctly. Design size is dependent upon the curvature of the cap and not based on a manufactures statement of profile. No two companies profiles are the same. If anyone wants additional help feel free to contact me off list.

Would someone be willing to look at a couple hat files and see if they should sew out correctly?

E-mail them to me at embroidery@usmedals.com. It may take me a couple of days to get a chance to look at them, but I will be happy to.
