  • Thread breaks, loose stitches =URGENT help please

About 2 months ago I was working on a design, long story short thread grabber hit the left arm and Xsy (my XT) broke, I finally got a tech on Friday and while he was here the machine stitched out a design (only 2 colors), Needle 7 is not working properly, I can see that it is not catching the bobbin thread and it sure looks like the acti feed is not working either. With other needles it will just break and or make big loose stitches, skip stitches or make a bad job. beofre this incident the machine was working like a dream, except that when the thread grabber was doing its job it would make a funny noise that made me believe sometime it was cutting the needle (but didnt). Called Melco, of course they blamed it on the design, which has stitched out perfectly on anothre XT.
Can somebody please help me? THANK YOU!

Sounds like your tech didn't test the machine thoroughly enough before he left- the problem you describe is definitely for a tech to fix; since it sounds like the problem wasn't fixed properly last visit, maybe you could get a "discounted" tech visit. Is your machine still under warranty?

If it's the same issue you should not be charged for additional travel. But it Sounds like it might be your thread feed drive gear. Check my earlier posts on how to replace but under warranty your tech will do it for free. If the hoop arms hit the needle case you may have a loose needle case. Not all techs think to check. If you gently grab hold of either side of the needle case does it "Rock" up and down? NOT SIDE TO SIDE. If so, tech needs to remove needle case and bend back the 4x4 Bar. I've had to do this dozens of times. Only once did it not work because it was bent outward. Had to replace the 4x4. PS. Replaceing the 4x4 is NOT permitted to be done by Techs in the Field ON MACHINES STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I've done 6 outside of warranty.

Well, something has to be wrong with the machine. I can see the thread looping by the bobbin case, I was on the phone with Melco Tech and did the finger test (or whatever is called, that actually came out wrong) and it was fine, I was reading about it here at the forum and It hought it could be some issues with the rotary hook timing, I tried again today another design and the quality of the stitches is very poor. My machine was running so good before this incident, and I know what kind of quality to accept form my Xt, so what is doing right now is completely unacceptable.
I mean, the thread should be coming off and going all over at the bobin case/rotary hook, right?

Check to be sure your thread is in the little black notch above under the roller.

It is. Needle 7 was too high, so I repositioned it and now it works, but the thread breaks are still there for every needle, you can see th thread making loops bu the bobbing case, and that is why it keeps breaking, there shouldnt be any thread "dancing there" right?

the thread goes completly around the Bobbin case EVERY stitch so yes there should be thread "dancing there".

make sure your presser foot is down correctly and your thread feed is not too high or low for the project.
